Oregonian Killed In Plane Crash Thorn, Calif. - IITD - A light plane crashed in a timbered ravine late Saturday killing one man and Injuring his brother. Tho victim was Ivan Alvin Ilubb.1, (III. of Drain, Ore., who was thrown from the rear rwnt of the plane as it ripped throiiKh trees and down a heavily wooded Incline about mile north of the Thorn air port. Ilohclc Hubbs, 43, the dead man's brother, was critically Injured and was rushed to Garbcrvllle, Calif., hospital. Witnesses said the plane went Into spin at 1,000 feet s It approached the airport to land. She was born in Lawton, Okla., Feb. 10, 1002, and lived with her family In Tucumcarl, N. M., most of her school years. Sho was for many years a member of the Trinity Episcopal church, Karachi, Paklstun, Sho hud been 111 at her sis ters homo for six weeks, Miss Ridley has been employed by the Army engineers for the lust 23 years. A lurgo part of her service was In Mobile, Ala., and the last five years sho has been In overseas service. Survivors Include one sis ter, Mrs. John Daughcrty, Ashland; and one brother, Al len Rcdley, Tucson, Ariz. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Trinity Episcopal church, 44 North Second St., Ashland. The Rev. John Powers, Med ford, will officiate. Internment will be at the Ml. RUTH STRAUS Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Stella Straus, 40, of 122 North First St., Talent, who died Thursday morning In an Ashland hospital, will be held at Perl Funeral home Mon day at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Frederick Evans of the First Christian church will offici ate. Committal will be In Sis kiyou Memorial Mausoleum. Mrs. Straus was born March 10, 1011, in Renville, Minn., and had lived in this area for 15 years. She was a past matron of the Eastrcn Star in Richmond, Calif., a member of the Zulcima Tem ple, daughters of the Nile; and a member of the First Christian church. Survivors Include her hus band, Harold Straus, Talent; two sons, Gary Straus, Tule lakc, Calif.; Joel Straus, of the U. S. Army; five sisters, Mrs. Lillie Holt, Medford; Mrs. Edna Moore and Mrs. Margaret Bucll, both of Richmond, Calif.; Mrs. Goldie Graham and Mrs. Bess Gus chewsky, both of Lander, Wyo.; two brothers, Irving Walter, Bend; Myron Walter, Richmond, Calif., and six grandchildren. Her mother, Mra. Andrew Walter, proceeded her In death in 1935; her father In 1950; one sister, Evelyn Chris tian, in 1048, and one broth er, Harry Walter, in June this year. PAUL B. SHEARER Paul B. Mr. Pittam was born Nov. 3. 1888, in Hebron, Ncbr., and had lived in southern Oregon for the past three years. He was married Sept. 24, 1913, In Hebron, Ncbr., to Hazel Good hue, who survives. Other survivors include four children, Legh Pittam, at home; Ralph Pittam, Rogue River; Robert Piltam, Mexico City, Mexico; and Glenn Pit tam, Palo Alto, Calif.; a broth er, Fred Pittam, Riverside, Calif.,; four sisters, Mrs. Ada Pickett and Mrs. Ruth Starncs, Riverside, Calif.; Mrs Mary Brule, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and Mrs. Es tclle Davies, Sonora, Calif; and nine grandchildren. Finch Trial to Resume Monday Los Angeio, - (DPI) - The re trial of Dr. R. Bernard Finch and his mistress, Carole Tre- goff, on charges of murder ing the wealthy doctor's wife, will get under way here Mon day. By coincidence, the second trial will start on the first anniversary of the death of Barbara Jean Finch. The first sensational trial which drew reporters from throughout the nation ended in a hung jury. Selection of a panel for the retrial took two weeks and a list of more than 240 prospective jurors. Servicemen CADET TRAINING Cadet Carl D. Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Martin, route 1, Rogue River, Is receiving six weeks of train ing at the Army Reserve Offi cer Training Corps summer camp at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. The training is scheduled to be concluded July 29. The cadet is a 1954 graduate of Rogue River High school and is a student at Oregon State college. NOW ENROLLED Capt. William B. Hunter Is one of 16 Air Force personnel presently enrolled in a two week academic instruction re fresher course at Chanute Air Force base, Rantoul, 111. Cap tain Hunter began the tour earlier this month and gradu ated and received his certifi cate of completion July 15. He is an instructor in the 9417th Air Reserve squadron, Med ford. He served two years ac tive duty with the Air Force and six years in the reserve. Hunter lives in Butte Falls with his wife, Beverly, and is superintendent of schools in Butte Falls. HELP W US! The transit authority said there were no trains in the tunnel when fire broke out in a circuit breaker but a train near the tunnel entrance was enveloped in smoke. Seven passengers and four transit employees were taken to a hospital suffering from smoke poisoning and 15 other persons were treated at the scene. Today he is Georgina Carol Turtle, a blonde who packs her 36-26-36 figure into bi kinis. Turtle underwent an oper ation three years ago in a London hospital to change his sex, but only recently con vinced officials to recognize his new status. "I have nothing to be ashamed about," Miss Turtle said. "My change has been natural and now I just want to start life afresh."
