tain town early Friday to help
battle 300 forest fires.
New fires were started
Thursday night by an electri
cal storm along a 200 mile
front. Other forest blazes,
somo a week old, blacked
thousands of acres of timber
land elsewhere In British
Columbia.
The new fires were being
fought by a force of nearly
1,000 men. One blaze at Spins
Creek, near here, covered
4,000 acres.

I'he 85-year-old dwelling
was built to serve as tho home
of the commanding officer of
Fort Adams when It was one
of the Army's principal de
fense establishment in this
urea. In 1051 tho old fort
wua "disestablished" and the
reservation turned over to tho
Navy an part of its sprawling
buse.
The house, with wide ver
andas overlooking Brenton's
Cove, Newport Harbor and
the old fort, is painted yellow,
with while trim. Its architec
ture is officially described as
New England Mansard.
