Medford's Post 15 team, financially backed by Coca Medford Girls Nab Net Tussle At Grants Pass Medford girls and Grants Pass boys were victors Friday in an intercity tennis match at Grants Pass. The Medford gals were vic tors by a 6 to 1 team score while Grants Pass took the boys' play 5 to 2. Winners for Medford in the girls' singles contention were Nancy Hinman over Kathy Schultz, 9-7, 6-1, Jan Stewart over Linda Milleman, 6-1, 6-2, Paula Lowery over Angie Chamberlain, 6-3, 6-0, and Betty Hatch over Mary New man, 6-D, 6-0. Dianne Mille man, Grants Pass, defeated Laura Batzer, Medford, 6-3, 6-1. In doubles Hinman and Batzer won from Schultz and Dianne Milleman, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, and Lowery and Hatch trimmed Linda Milleman and Chamberlain, 6-2, 6-1. Medford singles wins in boys singles were by John McKinley over Larry Janssen, 3- 6, 6-2, 6-4, and A. T. High land over Keith Goodsen, 6-1, 4- 6, 6-0. For Grants Pass Jim Blacksmith beat Gary High land, 6-2, 6-2, Dick Black smith defeated Scott Carpen ter, 6-1, 6-3, and Dick New man won from Jim Hatch, 6-1, 6-1. Grants Pass doubles victors were Janssen and Jim Black smith over McKinley and Car penter, 8-6, 6-1, and Newman and Dick Blacksmith over Gary Highland and Hatch, 6-2, 6-4. S. kid stars stormed to a 14-12, 6-3, 6-2 doubles victory over Bob Bed' ard of Shcrbrooke, Quebec, and Don Fontana of Toronto. That gave the United States an unbeatable 3-0 lead over Canada in the best-of-five se ries, thanks to a pair of open ing singles victories Friday by Cola Bottling company and other businesses, was third in the Area 4 southern division after a slow and late start. Grants Pass finished in the cellar. Dan Miles had three hits for Medford. Craig Laurance, Mike Neathamer, Tim White and Lowery had two safe blows each and Laurance, Neathamer, Art Ruhl and Lowery each recorded two RBI's. White and Laurance doubled. Paul Blinka, homered over the right field fence, doubled and singled for half the hits yielded by Lowery, who walk ed three and hit two batters. GP pitcher, Bob Varner, walked three and hit three. Grants Pass pressed the Post 15 team until the sixth inning when Medford established 9 to 5 spread on three runs off hits by Miles, Ragsdale and Laurance, an error, stolen base by Ragsdale and two pitcher s balks. Last Med ford tally was in the seventh frame on hits by White, Ruhl and Lowery and a steal by White. Medford, the "visitor" for this combat, put across two runs in the second inning on safeties by Neathamer and Lowery, a steal by Neathamer, a walk and two hit batters. Blinka homered for GP in the same inning. A walk, a hit batter, swipe by Laurance, a balk and an error made it 3 to 1 for Med ford in the top of the third panel. But GP tied the'mix in the bottom of the canto on a double by Blinka, three passed balls, one on a dropped third strike, a steal by Jim. Mar- quardt, a base on balls and a hit batter. In the fourth inning. White got his two-bagger and went to third, on a miscue. He was safe on a "play at the plate on Kunl's ground ball. Medford made it a 6 to 3 difference in the fifth chukker with two runs. There were hits by Laurance and Neathamer, a walk, a stolen base by Laur ance and a double pilfer by Laurance and Jim Calhoun. This conflict completed the division slate for both clubs. Klamath now will advance against South Eugene, north section winner, in the first two-out-of-three series in the Area playoffs. Moyer, 151 Vi, handed for mer welterweight champion Don Jordan of Los Angeles, Calif., 149V4, a stinging 10 round defeat for his first vic tory over a "big name" op ponent. Moyer, whose brother Den ny was beaten by Jordan in a welterweight champion ship fight here last summer, used a series of punishing left jabs to defeat Jordan in Jordan's first fight since losing his title last May to Benney (Kid) Paret: It was Jordan's fourth straight defeat and the loss may end all his chances of getting a return title bout with Paret. Turning Point Sid Flaherty, Moyer's man ager, called the fight "the turning point" in his boxer's career. Jordan was a picture of de jection in his dressing room after the bout and credited Phil's left jabbing for the up set. Jordan, fighting his first bout under a new manager, southern California business man Kirk Kerkorian, said Moyer was a much-improved fighter than the man he once sparred with while preparing to meet his brother in a title fight. At the end of the fight. Jordan had a badly damaged left eye. Neither fighter, however, was in any serious trouble during the bout and there were no knockdowns. The Rams tipped the Yanks 6 to 5 in 12 innlncs and the Giants beat the Dodgers 17 to 13. It was the first set back in the loop for the Yan kees. The two Medford nines are tied. Central Point Stars down ed the Ashland Cardinals 15 to 6 for their first league tri umph. Samuelson hit four for four, including a triple and homer for the Dodgers and Jeff Randolph hit for the circut for the Giants. Larry Mason, Star pitcher, held the Cards to three hits. Dave Twc- dell hit three for four, one a double, for CP.
