Closed by Strike
New York - IUPD - The strike
shutdown of the nation's
largest commuter railroad to
day forced more than 85,000
Long Islanders into car pools
and even boat pools to get
to their Jobs in New York
City.
Most commuters apparently
were able to get to work de
spite the transportation crisis
caused by the walkout Sunday
of 1,350 trainmen of the Long
Island Railroad. In addition to
commuters, the line carries
00,000 riders daily.
A forecast monumental
traffic tie-up on highways into
the city failed to materialize,
although traffic was unusu
ally heavy. Extra police
worked briskly to keep the
long line of autos moving into

Suffolk counties.
league decision over Grants
Pass yesterday to gain a VA
game lead in the standings
over second place Central
Point. The dlamonders from
the Pelican city need only one
more win to assure no less
than a tie in the final division
standings.
Klamath has only two
games to go in its league
schedule. It opposes Mcdford
at Mcdford on Wednesday
evening and Central Point at
Klamath Falls on Friday.
In addition to the GP test
tomorrow and the Friday
skirmish at KF, the Studs
have a game to make up with
Mcdford. Whether this post
poned mix will be contested
may be determined by the
league standings after Friday
night. The make-up is a cer
tainty if the game has bearing
on the title.
Medford, eliminated from
title contention by KF's Sun
day win, has a division tangle
with Grants Pass slated for
Friday evening at Cheney
field.
Two non-counting scraps
are on the docket for this
week. Central Point meets
Klamath No. 2 here on Thurs
day and Medford Is to engage
Grants Pass at White City on
Saturday,
KF No. 2 beat Grants Pass
6 to 4 last Saturday night.
