8 A Cards Beat SF Giants San Francisco - (UPD - The GinnU Just went thataway -in the general direction of fourth place that Is - and chances are they might land there tonight if Jack Sanford can't pull 'cm out of the spins. The chilly-eyed right-hander (8-5) goes after his third straight victory tonight when ho faces the St. Louis Card inals and Ray Sadeckl (2-4). "I don't see how our pitch ing could go so bad all of a sudden," Sheehan said Thurs day after the Cards had thumped the locals, 7-3, to plaster 'em with their third straight loss. "And our hitting isn't much, even if we did get nine off Larry Jackson, 1 don't think we had so much." Thanks to some confusion cn Willie Kirkland's part, Jackson went the distance Thursday to post his 10th win although clubbed for nine hits. Kifkland stunned the crowd of 14,614 experts, press box pundits and Sheehan in the fifth inning when - with the bases full and two out - he took a cut at a three and nothing pitch and flied out. WALL LEADING Toronto -WPD- Art Wall Jr., playing once again like the pro who won golfer-of-the- ycar honors in 193H, earned a one-stroke lead today into the third round of the Cana dian Open championship. The quiet-spoken Pocono Manor, Pa., pro, displaying a bril liant tee-to-green game and waving the trusty wooden shafted putter he inherited from a late friend some 15 years ago, moved into the 36 hole lead Thursday by shoot ing a five-under-par 67 for a 133 total. Buc Winner In Skinner By MILTON RICHMAN United Press International There was a young man named Skinner, who once looked like a rank beginner, but the Pirates were patient, and lo and behold, they now have themselves a real win ner. That would be Bob Skinner, often kidded about his two left feet but never about the bat he's using to bring Pitts burgh a possible National league pennant for the first time since 1927. "Skins," as his teammates call him, powered the Pirates to victory for the second straight night with a two-run double in the ninth inning that ruined the Reds, 3-2, Thursday night and preserved Pittsburgh's 5V4 gome lead. The victory was the Pirates' fourth in a row and they ac complished it with two out in the ninth to earn Vinegar Bend Mizell his fifth triumph. Bowling OPEN BOWLING AT ALL TIMES !
