Winner of the prize was the Portland Recruiting sta tion. Tne Medford group sur passed Portland in recruit en listments, but was over shad owed by Wave enlistments and reenlistments. Chief Murray J. Emmerich, Med ford, reported a total of 21 area men processed for en listment in Medford during the month of June. The trip was being offered to the outstanding Navy re cruiter in this area by a Reno theater manager. STEVENSON PETITIONS Madison, Wis.-flJPD-Adlai E. (UPI Telephoto) Capitol Memo 1961 Legislature Battlefield for Trading Stamp War Br DOUGLAS GRIPP Salem -fllPO- Trading stamp battle lines have been drawn again with the 1961 Legisla ture the battlefield. A group called the Oregon Business Council is preparing measure for the next ses sion to regulate stamps In four ways. The bill would re quire that: 1. Stamps be printed show ing their cash value, with stamp books showing the amount of purchases necess ary to fill them up. 2. Stamps be redeemable in cash amounts of one cent or more. 3. Stamp companies be li censed by the state and re quired to furnish annual re ports,, including financial re sponsibility. . 4. Stamp companies be re quired to sell to any firm willing to buy. , Number four Is the real stickler. At present, stamp firms issue them on a fran chise basis and this makes some firms out in the cold un happy. Any interested town peo ple are invited to join the group by calling the btudent Affairs office at the college to make reservations before Friday noon, July 8. The bus will leave sue at 30 a.m. for northern Cali fornia to see the lava bed for mations, the bird sanctuary, the ice caves, and the Indian writings on the cliffs.
