Washington - (UPD -The

148-35 an attempt by Rep.
John B. Bennett (R-Mich.) to
expand the bill and provide

radio and TV networks.
The bill finally approved
carries a maximum penalty
of a $10,000 fine and one year
in jail for anyone who fails
to disclose that he has ac

The same penalty would
apply to anyone who takes

"contest of intellectual knowl

The payola provision is an
expansion of present law
which requires a station to
disclose whether material it

today.
The vaunted organizing
power of the group that
forced cancellation of Presi

Plane Crash Kills
Two Seattle Men
Auburn, Wash. - d'PD - Two
Seattle men were killed Mon
day when the light Cessna
120 plane in which they were
flying crashed into a grove of
trees four miles northeast of
here.
Killed were Ulysis Fred
Kleckncr, 43, and Joel A. Par

Tuny Bullis Named
Manager of Branch
Central Point-S. M. (Tuny)
Bullis, locally known in con
struction and logging, has
been appointed branch man
ager of the local Howard
Cooper Corporation office.
Ralph Thomas, H-C sales man
ager, has announced.
Bullis was sales engineer
for the company in the Med-ford-Central
Point area since
1958. He has worked in the
construction, logging, and
heavy equipment profession
in the northwest for the past
li years.
The governors of Califor
nia, New Jersey, Iowa and
Kansas breakfasted together
at the annual Governor's
Conference. One consensus
they reported was that Steven
son's chances now are "remote."
The committee action came
as the United States submit
ted a new memorandum to the
Organization of American
States accusing the Castro
regime of a series of "provo
cative actions" which have
increased Caribbean tensions.
Key House members agreed
today that the sugar measure
-on which action had been
blocked for weeks by a parti
san row-would be sped to
the White House within two
weeks.
Powerful Lever
Its enactment would give
the President a powerful eco
nomic lever in dealing with
Castro who has been denounc
ing the United States while
making friendly overtures to
the Soviet Union.
Cuba supplies American
consumers with about one
third of their sugar. About
one-half of Cuba's sugar is
delivered to the United States
under a U.S. program which
assures American suppliers
higher than world prices.
