Apparently fearing the at tack might be a prelude to a revolutionary coup, the gov ernment suspended constitu tional rights to freedom of as sembly and freedom of move ment and closed all airports. The sale of liquor was pro hibited and a partial evening curfew was imposed in Cara cas. The cabinet asked congress to posthumously promote to brigadier general the presi dential military aide, Col. At least six persons were injured, two of them seriously The government asked Bri tain's Scotland Yard to coop erate in its investigation of the bomb attack on the chief executive. It said a bomb had been placed in a car parked on a corner of Avenida de Los Proceres along a route which Betancourt had to follow to review a military parade. Preliminary investigat 1 o n indicated the bomb had been so wired as to enable it to be detonated from a considerable distance. Contradictory statem e n t s were issued as to the suspect ed authors of the assassination try. Government radio claims echoed an earlier official statement that followers of ousted dictator Marcos Perez Jimenez and Dominican gov ernment agents were respon-sible However, Gen. Josue Lopez Henriquez, who was slightly wounded in the attack on Betancourt, said he thought three Nazi technicians and an Argentine were the persons responsible. The general told the news paper El Nacional that he had been told the four men were ordered to enter Venezuela clandestinely and attempt to kill Betancourt. Lopez said his reports came from Venezuelan intelligence reports "which were ratified by the United States govern ment and (Argentine) Gener al Pedro E. Aramburu," for mer president of Argentina.
