Sorority Chapter Winner Of International Award Alpha Lambda chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha of Med ford won the first place tro phy for its educational pro gram at the recent interna tional convention at Phoenix, Ariz. The topic, "Fascinating Lady in a Wide, Wide World," has been used by the chapter for its program the past year and the award was based on description, sources of infor mation, imagination in pre sentation, group participation and a composite of the phases shown in the group's scrap book. The first place award was the first ever received by an Oregon chapter at the inter- national convention. Two other chapters from Oregon placed second and third in the same category and a to tal of ten awards was won by Oregon. It was the largest number ever received by single state. Mrs. Robert Shangle, pres ident of the Southern Oregon district council, was one of the 14 delegates from Oregon She represented Alpha Lamb da andn Delta Omega chapters of Medford and was a guesl of Mrs. Tom Makris, former member of Alpha Lambda chapter now residing in Phoe nix. Mrs. Leon Landry, Eugene, was elected international treasurer for the coming year. Oklahoma City was chosen as the site for next year's inter national convention. Members of Alpha Lambda have scheduled their next meeting for July 11 at the home of Mrs. William Cox, 341 Sutter avenue. Women Leave For Convention Mrs. Hazel Wood, Vallejo, Mrs. Eva Gere, Huntington Park, and Mrs. Alga Lee, El Cerrito; Calif., have been guests of Mr. and Mrs. Don Anderson, 803 Pine street, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barneburg, 1297 Sunset ave- Mrs. Anderson and the guests left this morning for Eugene, Ore., to attend the annual department conven tion of the United Spanish War veterans and the annual grand convocation of the Military Order of Lizards. Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Gere are past department officers of California, and are repre senting the department presr dent, Mrs. Ruth Harmon. I M ml 4 -"wo'' " '.'1 ' 1 K ' If' Mrs. Mildred Gilbert JfaiM -"- I in v soft Organist To Present Concert An organ recital will be presented Tuesday, June 28, at Westminster Presbyterian church at 7:30 p.m. by Mrs. Mildred Waldron Gilbert, Portland, a member and past dean of the American Guild of Organists. The electronic organ was recently donated to the church and is to be dedicated today during the morning worship service at the church. The concert is open to the public without charge but a goodwill offering will be taken. Mrs. Gilbert was staff art ist of a radio station in Bos ton, music director at St. Paul's school, Walla Walla, Wash., and has served as fac ulty member of the Multno mah college, school of music. In addition to her private in struction she .is organist and music director at First Uni tarian church, Portland. The recital will include both religious and secular music. The Allen electronic organ has tone and characteristics which rival a pipe organ. Al though the organ console con trols and the resultant music are traditional, the method of production of sound is vastly different, it is stated. When notes are played, tiny electrical currents are relay ed to modern electronic com ponents instead of wind blown pipes. When an individual transistor receives this im pulse, an oscillation is be gun which is actually a minute musical vibration. This vibra- i tion is then processed by ad ditional circuits, the musical tone is properly shaped to blend with others, and then amplified. The organ is heard through a system of eight speakers, the sound is gyrophomc and full range. The gyrophonic effect is obtained through unique speakers that actually rotate as the organ plays, creating a dispersion of tone and an additional feeling of depth. Full range is derived through the use of the full spectrum of high fidelity equipment. Plan Picnic Phoenix - Phoenix Thurs day club will hold the annual picnic Thursday, June 30, at 12 noon at Jackson Hot Springs.
