Burnham, died in a local hospital yesterday. Fu neral services are tentatively set for Monday, June 27, at Chapel Mortuary. Robin son, 720 Oak St., Medford. Mr. Peters, 39, was a for mer valley resident living with the Robinsons in Rogue River. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a mem ber of the North Sacramento, Calif., American Legion post. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dolores J. Peters. Funeral services were held in North Sacramento Thursday. WALTER L. WHELDEN Funeral services for Walter Leslie Wheldcn, 65, of 336 South Riverside ave., who died Wednesday, will be held at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel North Phoenix rd., Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mane Headlee will officiate. Com' mittal will be in Hillcrest Memorial park, with Conger Morris, funeral directors, in charge of arrangements. Mr. Whelden was born Dec. 16, 1886, in Norcatur, Kans. He was married July 28, 1947, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Ade line Cote, who survives. He was a veteran of World War I, serving as a private m the Army from April 26, 1918, to April 25, 1919. He had lived in Medford for the past 13 years, operating the Cote Massage on South Riv erside ave. Survivors, besides his wife, include five sons, Earl Whel den, Clackamas, Ore.; Austin Whelden, Oregon City; Don Wheldcn, Oregon City; Glen Whelden, Salem, and Ernest Tanner, San Jose, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Sal- lee, Roseburg; Mrs. Lora Fischer, Oregon City, and Mrs. Virginia Shulz, Eagle Creek, Ore.; a brother, Ben Whelden, North Hollywood, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Edrie Reeves, Burbank, Calif.; and Mrs. Hellen Reeves, Chey enne,, Wyo.; several nieces and nephews, and 21 grandchildren. Motor Overheats -City firemen were summoned to Mechanics laundry, 1100 North Central ave., about 3:40 p.m. yesterday when an electric motor to an air com pressor shorted and burned out. Firemen flushed down five gasoline spills from parked automobiles in down town Medford yesterday, Grass Fires - Medford fire men were called out at 8:34 a.m. and 2:16 p.m. Wednesday when minor grass fires were reported. The first was re ported after smoke was seen near the 110 block of Stevens St. The owner of a vacant lot was burning weeds and grass, and was allowed to continue. The second was caused when hot ashes were dumped on dry grass in the 200 block of South Holly st. Firemen said no dam age was evident. New Residences - The city building department recently issued building permits for two new residences in the city. One of these was issued to Anna Siebinger to build a $6, 000 residence at 316 North Peach st., and the other to Art Dubs to build a $14,000 resi dence at 2757 Ruth dr. An other permit was issued to Northwest Swimming Pool company to build a $4,000 swimming pool at 2404 Hill crest rd. DEMPSTER Marcus Joseph Dempster, 51, of Medford, died in a local hospital Thursday. Mr. Dempster was born Feb. 23, 1909, in Atlantic City, N. J. On May 29, 1934, in Los Angeles, Calif., he was mar ried to Miss Frances Fralcy, who survives. The family has lived in the valley for the past 18 years. Mr. Dempster had been asso ciated with General Petrole um company for the past 17 years, and had been office manager of the plant since 1947. Survivors, besides his wife, include two daughters, Mrs. Gordon Carrigan, Ashland, Mrs. James Lynch, Portland; one brother, Albert Dempster, Tarzana, Calif.; two grandsons and one granddaughter. A requiem mass will be read by the Rev. Carl Mia at 9 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic church. Reci tation of the Holy Rosary will be at the Chapel in the Trees, Siskiyou Memorial park, at 7:30 o'clock tonight. Inter ment will be in Siskiyou Me morial park. Honorary pallbearers will include Thomas Dwycr, M. M. Huggins, A. K. Morse and El vis Arnold.
