G Stud Legion Nine Whips CP 13-1; Medford Host To Klamath Aggregation Central Point Chenev Studs with pitchers Bill Anhorn and Brad Gettling holding rival batters at bay and with Pat Pepper, Mike Glines, Brad Gettling and Louis Alvarez supplying hitting punch, thumped Grants Pass 13 to 1 here last night in southern division of Area 4 American Legion junior baseball. Drysdale Puzzle To LA Dodgers Cincinnati, Ohio - IUPII - Los Angeles Dodgers officials and players are busier than a head-shrinker with a room full of schizophrenics today trying to figure out what's wrong with the team's ace hurler, Don Drysdale. But what's more important, Manager Walt Alston and company would like to know what to do about it. "Since he slipped in the clubhouse and strained his back earlier in the season, I don't think Don's been throw ing very hard and his control has been off," said Alston. Catcher Norm Sherry who's seen the lanky hurler in ac tion better than most other Dodgers says, "I think Don was throwing real hard Mon day at Milwaukee." Apparently Drysdale wasn't throwing hard enough be cause Brave bat ace Hank Aaron touched him for two homers to win the game. "Drysdale got off to a bad start this season. In the first five games the Dodgers gave him something like 10 runs. He practically had to pitch a shutout to win," said a sympa thetic, but understandably perplexed Alston. "Milwaukee gave him a real shellacking in Los Angeles, but for the most part he's just pitched in tough luck," the Dodger mentor continued. night and Gettling came with in one out of making it a no hit triumph for the Cheney nine. With two out in the bottom of the seventh (Grants Pass was the "home" team), Gettling yielded a triple to Gary Holmes. That was the only GP hit of the evening and it drove in the only Cli mate city run. Bud Stanley had walked ahead of Holmes. Grants Pass hit the ball just out of outfield range just twice. In his four innings on the hill, Anhorn walked four and struck out five. Gettling is sued three bases on balls, hit a batter and fanned two. Six In Fourth Pepper drove in three runs on two hits. Gettling had four RBIs. He doubled home three runners and scored another off a sacrifice fly. Steve Harris also had a four RBI night, on three walks and a hit. Alvarez had three hits and Glines two for the Studs. Big inning for the Studs was the fourth with six runs on three hits, a walk, a field er's option and three errors. Three scored in the seventh on two hits, four errors, a walk, a hit batter, two stolen bases and a passed ball. Herb Wheeler, who chuck ed 12 innings against Central Point last Friday, is the likely pitcher for Medford tonight against Klamath Falls. The KF nine could have Wally Palmberg or John Webb on the hill. The Medford infield is ex pected to be Bob Quinney at first base. Jim Calhoun at second, Craig Laurance at third and Danny Miles at shortstop with Jim Barry catching. If Dick Ragsdale is on hand, he may be in center field with Mike Neathamer going to left. Choice for right pasture could be among Dick Dcfflcy, Art Ruhl and Jack Lowrey. Ragsdale, who has been in Canada, was not back for Monday or Tuesday workouts. Tim White, who has been playing first base, reportedly is going, or has gone, on a trip. AREA 4 STANDINGS (Southern Division) W. Federal Judge William Lindberg described Cannon as a wonderful athlete but "any thing but an astute business man" Monday in ruling he could play with the Oilers. Cannon, former Louisiana State university halfback, was taken to court by the Los Angeles Rams who tried to keep him from playing with anyone but them. Cannon signed a contract with the Rams Nov. 30-a month before he played with LSU in the Sugar Bowl game -calling for some S50.000 over a three-year period. Later he signed witli Houston for salary double what the Rams offered. In voiding the Los Angeles contract, Lindberg said the agreement Cannon signed was simply an offer to enter into a binding agreement He said the pact should be character ized as a "conditional prece dent to execution" of a work ing contract. The jurist said the Ram contract called for a termina tion date, but no starting date, indicating it was conditional.
