His ex-wife was a crazy girl who almost drove him to a nervous break- First Sessions of Camp Easter Seal To Open June 26 Reedsport-The first of four cessions at Camp Easter Seal. Oregon's only summer camp exclusively for crippled chil dren and young adults, will open June 26 and continue through July 5, William R. vvells, president of the Ore gon Society for Crippled Chil dren and Adults, the Easter Seal agency, has announced. Each session is divided into different age groups, Wells re ported, and the first is for children from 7 through 11 years. Enrollment for the inl tial session has already been filled but there are openings jn the remaining three which are scheduled as follows: July 9 through 18, 12 to 13 years; July 22 through 31, 14 through 17 years and Aug. 4 through 13, 18 years and young adults. Whitaksr Is Director The camp, located on North lake of Ten Mile lake is un der the direction of Bruce M Whitaker, with Roger Wood as program director. Staff in cludes a registered nurse, three house mothers and three program assistants. Campers who are severely crippled and need assistance can bring In dividual attendants, Whitakcr said. Registration can be made through headquarters of the Oregon Society for Crippled Children and Adults, 1135 SW Yamhill st., Portland. Whita kcr pointed out there Is a tee of $23 per session, but there are campships available through various civic and fra ternal organizations. He also tressed that no candidates are refused for lack of funds. The camp is reached by cruiser from the North Lake park moorage at Lakeside, pear Reedsport. The camp program includes boating, swimming, cookouts, compass work, axe safety, campfire songfests and what to do if lost in the woods. Ap proximately 115 crippled chil dren and young adults from 20 Oregon counties attended the four sessions last year. down with her nagging and stupid ways. Divorce was the only way out. My parents are very stuffy about divorces and things like that. They just can't un derstand why I want to mar ry a divorced man. Our re ligion doesn't p r o h 1 b i t di vorce, so I don't see why they snouia mane a big issue about this. Anybody can make one mistake. My parents take the attitude that Roy will never make a good husband. e e Mrs. J. L. - I just can't understand why an attractive young girl like my daughter would want to get involved with a man who has already had one wife. It would be dif ferent if she were older, but this is ridiculous. Both she and Roy are really still kids - yet he had a divorce on his record and Gay feels he's the only one in the world for her. My husband and I have had a very happy married life and we think youngsters todav are just crazy in the way they shed husbands and wives if things don't go the way they expect. I feel that a person who can't get along with one mate won't do much better with another. Ninety-three high school girls from seven western states are attending the two week science course lasting until June 25. The program was first start ed five years ago on a co-ed-uciitlonal basis then was di vided to allow for more en rollment. The boys group is at Oregon State college dur ing the same period of time. Only eight states are holding such programs. Pickup Truck Hits Big Fuel Tank Salem -IUPU- A pickup truck smashed Into a 24.000 gallon fuel lank in southeast Salem Friday, gushing about 100 gal lons of dicsel oil over the area and slightly injuring the driver. Gordon Carl Porter of Sa lem, treated for abrasions, told police his steering mech anism failed. The Council: We agree, on the whole, with Mrs. J. L. The indications are, how ever, that many second mar riages are happier than the first. But we suspect the rea son for this is that more indi viduals are coming to recog nize that when a marriage tans It is not the fault of one partner. Such Individuals are deter mined to make a success of a second marriage and try to icarn wnere tney, themselves. were at fault for the failure of the first. Often they get spiritual and psychological guidance before embarking on a second marriage. If those same individuals attempted to save their first marriages by getting this guidance, they probably could avoid all the anguish and de- structiveness of divorce. In the case of Gay and Roy, we would be far from opti mistic about the chances of success. Roy has apparently put the entire blame on his first wife. She may have been a "crazy girl" who nagged and had "stupid ways," but we won der what her story about Roy wouia De. It is entirely likely that af ter a year or two of marriage. Gay would find herself with child and a husband who considered her crazy, stupid and a nag. Gay says "anybody can make one mistake." That's true enough. But it behooves us to recognize the nature of the mistake. The mistake is Just as often in being the wrong kind of person as in marrying the wrong kind of person. The fact that Gav considers her parents "stuffy" on the subject of divorce suggests that she may be a little wide eyed and romantic about It. Possibly she finds some spe cial appeal In Roy as a man or experience - a man who has been hurt by one woman, who turns to her for comfort and new hope. She needs to wise up to the fact that one bad experience doesn't neces sarily change a man. He must be willing to change himself. (Copyright 1960, General Feature! Corp.) Area Boys Elected To State Positions Corvallis - Recent elections here at the American Legion sponsored Beaver Boys State at Oregon State college have chosen several area boys as top officials for the mock county and state governments. Elected secretary of state was Jim Hamilton, Grants Pass. Chosen as senators and representatives in the Beaver Boy counties from southern Oregon were Ron Miller, Junction City, representative for Clatsop county; Jim Ste ver, Medford, senator for Multnomah counlv John Snl. dcr, Medford; senator for Slus- law county; and Bill Dames, Medford, representative for Sluslaw county. More than 450 bovi attend ed the six-day session on citi zenship and leadership. The youths attended three classes on government each day.
