(Knackstedi photo) Two BPW Clubs Hold Installation Dinner Officers of the Medford and Ashland Business and Profes sional Women's clubs were in stalled Thursday evening in a joint ceremony at the Rogue Valley Country club. Mrs. Kenneth Bricco, Klam ath Falls, southern Oregon dis trict chairman, installed the officers, assisted by Mrs, Cyril Cook, Klamath Falls past president, and Miss Lou ise Mitchell, incoming presi dent of the Klamath Falls club. Mrs. F. R. Faulkner, re elected president of the Med ford club, and Mrs. Horace Myers, Ashland, were in stalled presidents of their re spective clubs. Attending the evening event were 78 members and guests from southern Oregon. Among them wore 15 mcm bcrs of the Ashland club, 13 members from Grants Pass, 8 from Klamath Falls, and 6 guests of Medford club mem bers Other Medford officers in stalled were Miss Gladys Dur- rand, first vice - president; Mrs. R. L. Williams, second vice-president; Mrs. Marion Keim, recording secretary; Mrs. C. H. Redmond, corres ponding secretary; Mrs. R. L. Miss Peggyann Hutchinson, gave the story of the club woman's collect, written in 1904 by Miss Mary Stewart. Miss Tina vonKuhlman, Ash land, sang three selections ac companied by her mother, Mrs. J. H. vonKuhlman. Mrs. Faulkner announced and introduced her committee chairmen for the year. They include Mrs. Watson, career advancement; Mrs William Milhoan, emblem; Mrs. Wil liams, finance; Miss Rita Rose, hospitality; Miss Hutchinson, international relations: Mrs. Stephen G. Nye. legislation: Mrs. E. H. Loveness, member ship; Mrs. Ethel Tennant, national security; Mrs. John D. They include a pic nic July 21 In Hawthorne park and a field trip in August to the Illinois Valley ranch, Cave Junction. O SUNDAY. JUNE 19. I960 Sardine Creek Women Hold Kaffeeklatsch Gold Hill Mrs. Walter Whitney was hostess last Tuesday for the second Sar dine creek kaffeeclatsch for all women of that area. Mrs. Oscar Powers was co-hostess for the affair. The purpose of this social function among neighbors is to promote friendship and provide an opportunity for all newcomer to Sardine creek to become acquainted. The idea was introduced by Mrs. Leonard McMahan, Mrs Henry Paulsen, and Mrs. Og, den Kellogg. Mrs. Whitney said that the interesting thing about these social gatherings is that several families who are now residing here once lived within a few blocks of the other in Los Angeles, Calif., but did not know the others until coming to the so cial hours. Women who attended the party at the Whitney home were Mrs. Jack Deal, Mrs. Jim Wilson, Mrs. Leonard Me- Mahan, Mrs. George Smith Mrs. C. A. McKibbon, Mrs, Thelbert Wright, Mrs. Wil liam Wright. Mrs. W. S. Dick enson, Mrs. W. A. Blancher, Mrs. E. G. Blancher, Mrs. B, Campbell, Mrs. Ray White, Mrs. Ernest H. Cooper, Mrs Ivan Smith, Mrs. Ogden Kel logg, Mrs. Pat Fargo, Mrs, Nora Wait, and Mrs. Sidney Anderson. The Coopers are newcom ers to Sardine creek. They are the new owners of the Mys tery House at Oregon Vortex, This was the first Sardine creek gathering for both Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. White. There are about 32 families residing on the creek at this time. During the afternoon recre ation for youngsters of the area was provided by Mrs. McMahan and Mrs. Wilson at the Wilson home. Fourteen youngsters participated. The chief entertainment was a baseball game. Mrs. E. G. Blancher will be hostess for the July social gathering for women of this Medford Woman nstalls Officers :or Valley Club Illinois Valley Officers of the Illinois Valley Federated Women's club of the Oregon Federation of Women's Clubs, were installed June 10. The ceremony followed a lunch eon at the Oregon Caves Chateau. Mrs. Clay M. Lee, Medford, president of the Federation's District 1, installed Mrs. Gene Denning as president; Mrs. Helen Eastman, first vice president; Mrs. Raymond Hei denrich, treasurer; and Mrs. John Spitz, secretary. Mrs. Denning appointed Mrs. Arthur Kellert parlia mentarian and Mrs. Fred Sal vage publicity chairman. The outgoing president, Mrs. Earl Boyd, presented ifts to her officers. Orchid corsages were made by Mrs. Clay Ramsey. Club members presented a set of ceramic swans to Mrs. Boyd. Peonies and delphinium decorated the dining room. Lizabeth Denning and Linda Prather served luncheon. Mrs. James Baldwin fur nished music. Guests attending from Med ford were the Mesdames K. Lindgren, W. T. Fasel, T. C. Rcid, John L. Mansfield and J. D. Brummond. Mrs. Brum- mond is president of Travel Study club. Thirty-five guests attended from Grants Pass. Miss Arlene Hoover was honored in recog nition of her art work. She has been sponsored by the club. Members are asked to take a book they have finished reading and would like some one else to enjoy. These will be offered for sale at the meeting. She has serv ed as head of the nursing staff since the opening of this sta tion 11 years ago. Miss Stuhr is widely known In her profession throughout the northwest and is a mem ber of District 4, Oregon Nurses association. While in the Rogue valley area she has been active in the Business and Professional Women's club, Altrusa club, and the Medford Rose society. Entering the Veterans ad ministration when it was the Veterans bureau at Tacoma, Wash., November 14, 1924, as a staff nurse, she served at both the Portland and Van couver hospitals between 1929 and 1949, as head nurse, and chief of the Nursing Service, before being transferred to Camp White. Miss Stuhr assisted in acti vating both the VA hospital in Vancouver and the domi ciliary here. She is the last member of the original pro fessional staff who came to this station when it was opened. Before accepting her gov ernment position, Miss Stuhr was on the nursing staff at St. Joseph's hospital, Brainerd, Minn., for three years. She is a graduate of St. Raphael's School of Nursing, St. Cloud, Minn. Miss Stuhr plans a visit with a sister, Mrs. Elsie Bar ney, in Minneapolis, before returning to make her home in Medford. Manager Henry C. Herzog, in announcing her retirement, advised Miss Stuhr: 'Your devotion and service to the beneficiaries of the Veterans administration at this instalaltion has made an unforgettable 1 m p r e s s i on upon the minds of not only the members here, but also your fellow employees who have known and worked with you." Several parties were ar ranged for Miss Stuhr by her associates, including a tea Wednesday at the manager's house with Mrs. Herzog and Mrs. Anderson as co-hostesses; an employees party at the Employees club Friday af ternoon, and a luncheon at the home of Mrs. John Lang ston Saturday.
