OR Local and Debria Fire - State depart ment of forestry patrolmen were called to a spot fire in debris near the Ross Lumber company mill near Prospect yesterday morning. Cause was not listed. Grata Burns -A one -half acre grass fire on the Walter Martin property, 954 South Stage rd., about 3:50 p.m. yes terday was reported by Med ford firemen. A fire in trash at the 11th st. railroad cross ing was put out about 7:40 p.m. Smoke Smalled-An odor of smoke at Jackson County Title company about 4:10 p.m. yesterday was traced to an overheated motor, firemen stated. They said that a short in an electric range at the residence of Orvin D. Rat Heart Cells Believed Useful Washington - (Science Serv-ice)-Single beating cells from rat hearts are expect to be useful in studying the food and other requirements of hu man hearts. The microscopic cells could be used to tell how certain foods, or a lack of them, affect the beating of the single cells. - The cells of the rat heart were separated and grown in a test tube by Drs. Isaac Ha- rary and Barbara Far!ey of the University of California at Los Angeles. She married William R. Allison March 14, 1901, in Indianola. The couple moved to Ashland from Lebanon, Ore., in 1927. She is survived by her hus band, William R. Allison, Ashland; one son, Harold Al lison, Eugene; two grandchil dren; two great grandchil dren; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Marshall, Des Moines, Iowa; and Mrs. Esta Crawford, San Diego; and one brother, War ren Hendrick, Norwalk, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Litwiller's Mountain View chapel with the Rev. P. Malcolm Ham mond officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery. JOHN H. MASTERS John Henry Masters, 85, of 1832 North Riverside ave., died yesterday in a local hos pital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Conger Morris, funeral directors. HARRY W. REAMES Harry W. Reames, 78, of 143 South Main St., Phoenix, died this morning in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at the Hillcrest Mor tuary chapel on the North Phoenix rd. Monday at 2:30 p.m. Committal will be . in Phoenix cemetery, with Conger-Morris,, funeral direc tors, in charge of arrange ments. St. Helens Mill Crew Gets Holiday St. Helens -flJPD- A 25-man section of the Pope and Tal bot Lumber Co. here was giv en the day off Thursday after the second accident of the week occurred. Officials said the band mill section of the 160-man plant was given the day off for relaxation" purposes. Don Loving, of Gobel, Ore., was hospitalized Thursday when he was struck in the temple by a flying chunk of wood. He was treated and re leased. William Eaglestone, 61, died Tuesday night in a Port land hospital after being snagged in the upper thigh by a machine he was op erating. The band - mill section, which works a four-day week, will return to work Monday. Old Timers Car Club Notes Events Members of the Old Timers Car club will participate In two events this week end. Saturday, June 18, the group will meet at the A and W. Root Beer stand between 9 and 9:30 a.m. to leave lor Rogue River to drive in tne Rooster parade at 10:30 a.m. Members have been asked to wear outfits appropriate for their model car. Sunday, the group will at tend the Catfish Derby in a group at TouVelle State park. They are to meet at 11 a.m. at the Root Beer stand. A roped off parking area will be available for the cars to be on exhibit during the day's ac tivities.
