Court Signs Order To Buy Tractor The Jackson County court Friday afternoon signed a contract with Crater Lake Machinery to purchase a new Caterpillar tractor. Net price was $23,131. Overall price, including the $4,750 tradein, was $27,081. Crater Lake was lowest of three bidders. The county court also re newed a contract with Stacey and Watkins, accounting firm in Medford, for audit of coun ty books for the coming fiscal year. The county court also ap pointed Ned Mars, Ashland real estate man, to the county planning commission. Mars' appointment fills the unex pired term of John Weisbrod, Medford, who resigned. The term expires Dec. 31, 1962. Moonshine Favored 6 Woman Cook Miami, Fla. - A woman charged with possession of moonshine told Judge B. C. Willard she didn't keep it to drink or sell, but used it in stead of wine in cooking her meats. He suspended sentence, ad monishing her to alter her recipes. Rural Fire Area May Be Formed Phoenlx-A meeting on a proposed rural fire district fnr thn Phnpnlv ArpA will hp held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June is, in ine rnoenix grade school gymnasium. A group of Phoenix citizens interested In forming the dis trict said a man from the atnta lira marshal's nffipfi will attend the meeting to explain the procedures in lorming a rural fire district arid how it will operate. Over 100 signatures appear on petitions favoring the dis trtnt formation, a sDokesman added. The district would ex tend northward to Houston rd. center line or to the south ern limit of the Medford rural fire district. Petitions will be circulated at Wednesday's meeting for registered voters and proper ty owners wimin ine pro nnioA rural fire district to sign. Twenty-five per cent of the residents, or 200 persons, must sign the petitions to be presented the county court. After the signatures are verified, the county court calls an election.
