o o o o Medford Trainee Reviews Position Carlos De la Rosa, of Bo gota, Columbia, recently ad vised acquaintances here of his success and positions in civil aeronautics in Columbia. De la Rosa underwent on-the-job training at the Med ford combined Civil Aero nautics administration station tower under the sponsorship of the U. S, technical assist ance program beginning Aug. H456. Declared an excellent stu dent by his employers, he Is now teaching English to his fellow workrrs in South America. He is now head of Air Traf fic control in Columbia and states that he has been named chief of flight services divi sion. De la Rosa has 500 flight service specialists serving under him at the present time. Regular credit courses will be offered for credit in art, music, educa tion, psychology, health and physical education, humani ties, science, mathematics, and social science. A full course in a teacher librarian program, designed to train teacher-librarians for small and medium sized ele mentary and high schools, will be a new offering for Southern Oregon college. Main, Medford with the Oregon Shakespear ean Festival, will give field courses in letters and the arts as a part of a' study of the Fes tival. The institute is under the direction of Dr. Margery Bailey, Standford university. Guest conductor for the Siskiyou Band Camp, to be held July 18 to 29, will be Randall S p i c e r, nationally known expert on bands and band literature from Wash ington State university. Foun der-coordinator is Glenn T. Mathews, assistant professor of music at SOC. Thirteen special workshop classes will be offered during the summer session, Dr. Sampson reported. Regular workshops will begin June 13 and run through the end of the term, Aug. 12. Three spe cial classes will be offered in the post session for elemen tary education. Club and Camp Leadership, with Dan Bulkley and Audio Visual Aids, with Larry But ler, will be offered June 13 to 24. Arithmetic in the school will be instructed by Chester Squire and Hobart Jackson, June 20 to July 1. Reading in the school, with Evelyn Bar ker, will be given July 5 to 15. Science in the school will be offered from July 18 to 29, concurrent with the Siskiyou Band Camp. Aug. 1 to 12 four seminars will be offered: music in the elementary school, Helene Robinson; art in the school, Ruth Halvorsen; human rela tions in Shakespeare, George Bell and Dr. Arthur Solomon; and selected Shakespearean plays, Dr. Kenneth Clarke and Dr. Solomon. During the post 1 session, Aug. 15 to 26, three classes will be given; social science in the elementary school; lan guage arts in the elementary school; and Spanish in the elementary school. Local Woman Waives Preliminary Hearing Mrs. Audrey Josephine De witt, 812 Grant St., Medford waived a preliminary hearing. and was bound over to the- grand jury on charges of bur glary not in a dwelling when she appeared in district court Thursday. She is being: held in the Jackson county jail in lieu of $2,500 bail. She is charged with entering Midway Serv ice station and grocery on the Butte Falls highway Nov. 18. The accumulation of mater ial resources does not give one true security any more than the accumulation of arma ments give real security to a nation, the former First Read er of the Mother Church, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, Mass., said. Subject of the talk was, "Christian Science: A Fresh Approach to Security." He opened his talk with a discus sion of the battle for men s minds, the great barrage of propaganda being directed to day at the individual. Wallach stressed the need for greater alertness and pointed out one reason for a sense of insecurity is the gen eral belief in the uauthentic ity and power of evil. Every subtle hint of fear, frustration, sin, disease, or dis aster is "only an attempt of the carnal mind to mislead, to fool one into believing that evil is actual, to shut one's eyes to the glorious presence of God, good," he stated. It's part of an effort to encourage Ameri cans to celebrate Flag day, June 14. Joined in the effort are the American Legion and the Na tional Institute of Dry Clean ing according to local sources. Jobe and Junior High school school Principal Willard Smith will be in Portland Monday, Tuesday and Wed nesday to inspect merchandise offered by bidders on bleach ers as well as those bidding on about $105,000 worth of furniture needed at the school.
