At the close of the installa tion Mrs. Sweet thanked the members for their cooperation during the year. She was pre sented a gift by the members of the club In appreciation of her leadership. Delegates to the annual convention of the Oregon state Federation of Women's clubs, held at Portland In May, reported to the club the highlights of t' e business and social activities of the con. vention. Mrs. E. W. Ingram. Mrs. Holmes, Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Chamberlain attended the convention in behalf of the club. Mrs. Holmes mod eled her Vogue sewing con test entry, a versatile Jacket dress, Mrs. Ingram spoke of the business meetings, Mrs, Nelson commented on the so cial aspects of the convention and Mrs. Chamberlain made comparisons involving other club projects and problems, An award was presented to the Medford Junior Women for 100 per cent participation in the nine departments of club work. These include con servation, community affairs, communications, the Ameri can home, education, fine arts, religion, public affairs and International affairs. Couple Leaving For Stay Abroad Hornbrook - Mr. and Mrs. Norman Martin left Horn- brook June 1 for New York City from where they will fly June 8 for England. Mrs Martin recently resigned as first and second grade teach er in the Hornbrook schools and the couple plan to spend the summer in England. Mr. Martin's mother lives in Salisbury and Mrs. Martin is a native of Wales. While there they also plan to visit friends in Swinden, England. The couple will make their home with Mrs. Martin's sis ter, Mrs. Edwin Kelly, Al- hambra, Calif., until they de cide where they wish to set tle permanently. In addition to teaching the two elementary grades, Mrs. Martin also taught music for all eight grades and was Sun day school teacher for the Church of the Nazarene in Yreka. She was also the teach er of Thursday afternoon re lease time classes and an adult Bible class one evening each week. days year you geti O MU 5-5291, Ashland Jayne Killingtworth Parents Tell Betrothal News Mr. and Mrs. Russell Kill lngsworth, route 4, box 468 Medford, announced the en gagement of their daughter, Jayne Lynne, to William D. Galbraith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor H. Galbraith, Cas tro Valley, Calif. Miss Killingsworth is a graduate of Medford High school and Southern Oregon college and is a teacher in the Hayward school district, Hayward, Calif. Mr. Galbraith is an em ployee of the Pacific Tele phone and Telegraph com pany, San Leandro, Calif. The couple plan an August wedding and will make their home in Hayward. I Art Exhibit Open Today The June exhibit at the new Rogue gallery will open today for members of the sponsor ing group, Rogue Valley Art association, and their friends. It will open to the public Mon day, June 6, at 12 noon. Hours will continue the same, with the gallery open from noon until 4 p.m. each day. The new exhibit is made up of works by the widely known Oregon-born sculptor, Tom Hardy; by Richard Doi, Instructor at Southern Ore gon ' college, and Imanuel Plladakls, art instructor at Oregon State college. The gallery, located at 220 East Main street, will open at 3 o clock today for a preview showing of the new exhibit. Mr. Hardy, who arrived In Medford yesterday to arrange his exhibit, and Mr. Doi will be honored at a reception fol lowing a movie, made by Mr. Hardy, to be shown in the basement of the California Oregon Power company. Zonta Honors Eight Students Medford club of Zonta In ternational recently held the luncheon at which junior and senior girls at Medford High school who have received scholarships from the club or have been sponsored by them, and other outstanding girls are honored. Seven students attended the event. They were Miss Micke Noble, winner of the 1960 Zonta full tuition scholarship to Southern Oregon college; Miss Linda Glenn Miller, re cipient of the 1959 Junior En gineering and Sicence Sum mer Institute scholarship giv en by Zonta; Mrs. Rosalita Patch, 1060 JESSI scholarship winner; Miss Rosiland Rrand lcs, sponsored for Girls State by Zonta in 1959; and Miss Mary Frohnmayer, 1960 Girls State delegate. Also present were Miss Carolyn Mencke, American Field Service exchange stu dent to Finland in 1959; Miss DcAnne Taylor, AFS student to Germany tills summer, Miss Therese Inglin, Switzerland, AFS student to Medford High school luau-BU. Installation Set By Navy Mothers Navy chief Murray J. Em merich, recruiting officer in Medford, will Instnll officers of the Rogue Valley Navy Mothers club following elec tions at a meeting Tuesday, June 7, at the Girls Commu nity club. Sewing Is planned for the morning and a potluck lunch eon will be served at noon. All mothers of Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard per sonnel are invited to attend. Hostesses will be Mrs. George Tucker, Mrs. May Brown and Miss Elizabeth Mc-Calliard, Delegations From OES In Portland Large delegations from the valley's Order of Eastern Star chapters will be in Portland next week for the annual grand chapter session. Heading the delegation from Reames chapter is Mor ris Boughner, associate wor thy grand patron, who is scheduled to succeed to the top state office of grand pa tron. Elections are slated for Tuesday, and installation Thursday night in the Port land Masonic temple. Accompanying Mr. Bough ner, who left Saturday, were his wife and their daughter, Miss Mikelynn Boughner Representing Reames chap ter will be Mrs. Audrey Rob erts, the worthy matron, and Carl Oestreich, worthy pa tron. Others from the chapter attending will include Mrs, Roy Nordwick, associate matron; Mrs. Lloyd Caton, Mrs. Gene Dyke, Mrs, Oestreich, Mrs. Stuart Pen nington, Mrs. Ross Gilkison Mrs. .Shirley Stratton, Mrs. Gladys Rammin, Mrs. Eva May White, Mr. and Mrs. John Esp, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Caldwell, Mrs. Jenning Crea- ger, the Rodney Withams and the Don Ashpoles. Mrs. E. G. Randolph, past matron of Reames chapter and now grand representative to Washington D.C., will at tend the grand session as will Mr. Randolph, associate pa tron of the chapter. Sessions open informally Monday, and members of southern Oregon chapters will attend a luncheon Monday at the Congress hotel for the Southern Oregon Association of the Order of Eastern Star. 81st Birthday Is Celebrated In Hornbrook Hornbrook-The 81st birth day anniversary of Mrs. Zela Elmore was observed May 29 at a family dinner at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Burns. Guests were Mrs. El more's sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Eston Hender son, Oroville, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul G'eene and grand daughters, Linda and Lydia Greene, Mr. and Mrs. Don Burns and son Scottic of Au burn, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Spearin and sons Les and Mike of Cottonwood, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stickney and daughter Alan na of Medford. Mr. Burns, Mrs. Spearin and Mrs. Stickney are chil dren of the Floyd Burns. An other daughter, Mrs. Herbert Stickney of San Mateo, Calif., was unable to be present. Also unable to attend were another son of Mrs. Elmore, Ardon Burns and Mrs. Burns, who had left on Sunday for San Pablo, Calif., to be witn her daughter, Mrs. William Paulsen and her new baby, Dale Richard. Mrs. Elmore, born Zela Tyrrell ne..r Butte Falls, Ore., on Mav 28, 1879, has lived in the Hornbrook area since she was a small child. Her first husband, Scott Burns, and his father were killed when a train struck their horse and buggy at a railroa 1 crossing near their ranch home north of Hornbrook when her son Floyd was 14 months old Three years later she was married to Archie Elmore, who died several years ago, Since that time. Mrs. Elmore has lived alone. She plants and raises her own vegetable gnrden and cans the produce She also raises a"d tends her own chickens and has two milk goats which she milks herself. Her hobbies are play ing her old-fashioned square piano, on which she has a very firm and expressive touch. Mrs. Elmore also sings with a sure, strong voice, and occasionally writes poelry. She is an elocutionist of the old school and her recitations are greatly enjoyed when she appears on local church pro grams. She is a member of the Hornbrook Methodist church, and an active member of the Women's society of the emircn. Meeting Set For Tuesday o Tallsmm Temple, Pythian Sisters, will meet Tuesday, June 7. at 8 p.m. in the Py thlan building. A Flag Day program will be followed by a business meeting. Barker, 647 South Holly street, Medford, announce the engagement of their daughter, Linda Rae, to Dale A. Monroe son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold A. Monroe, 443 Allison street, Ashland. Miss Barker will be a sen ior at Medford High school this fall. Mr. Monroe will graduate from Ashland High school with the class of 1960. No date has been set for the wedding. 1 Bethel Honors Retiring Queen Bethel 14, International Or der of Job's Daughters, hon ored Queen Marion Parsons with an addendum at the close of a bethel meeting, Wednesday, June 1. The ad dendum was planned by Miss Diane Evernham and Miss Laura Rupert and was partici pated in by 12 bethel mem bers using a floral degree. Verses appropriate to "Jo bies" were used and each girl presented Miss Parsons with a pink carnation. This was the last session to be presided over by Queen Marian. During the business session the bethel voted to partici pate in the statewide candy sale in October. Proceeds from the sale are divided be tween the local bethel and the grand guardian council which uses its portion to pro vide scholarships to members of Job's Daughters who de sire educational training be yond high school level. Mrs. C. D. Elhart, guardian, announced that reservations are available for two more girls to attend grand session in Salem, July 14-16. Any girl desiring to attend is request ed to call her immediately. June 15, Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. will be the last meeting of this year, and the first meeting to be conducted by Miss Carla Borough and her officers. If any bethel members will be out of town at that time, they are remind ed to arrange to be excused before leaving. Mrs. Judd Greenman, who is arranging the weekly shows while Dr. and Mrs. Frank Roberts are on a Mid west tour, stated that the slides will be of scenes in the Rogue valley and will include some taken of a trip in the Cascades on a Tucker Sno Cat. Bill Jones will be host for the meeting. The woodcarving class has assumed meetings under the leadership of Glenn Van Wickle on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. New members are wel come to start at any time, it was reported. The copper tooling class will be sched uled later when a teacher has been secured. During May 261 persons at tended classes and meetings at the center in addition to 194 who came to the open house on May 22, officials said. Friday evening a commit tee, appointed by Frank Glonning, met to plan a new and larger center which is hoped will be built on the same location. Committee members in clude Omar Bacon, Mrs. Harry Fuller, Mrs. C. A. Thatcher, Mrs. Victoria Sta ley, Mrs. Fred Rankin, Wil liam Hoxie and John Gribble of the Rogue Valley Council on Aging, and Mrs. Rilla Norris, Mrs. Mary Frederick, Edward Root and Hans Jep son of the Fifty Plus club. They plan to confer with a committee of the city parks and recreation board next week. A number of public offi cials and other interested persons attended the open house during Senior Citizen's week. Many pledged their as sistance in obtaining an ade quate Center building large enough to accommodate the club and the hobby groups. Lions Auxiliary Elects Officers Mrs. Anthony Capello Is the newly elected president of Medford Lions auxiliary for the coming year. Other offi cers elected were Mrs. Ed ward Ashton, vice-president; Mrs. James Warinner, secre tary; Mrs. John Hanson, treas urer. The election was held June 1 at the home of Mrs. Herbert Seitz following an annual pot luck dinner. Mrs. Alan N. Jewett con ducted a membership cere mony for Mrs. A. Dollarhide, Mrs. Henson and Mrs. Warin ner. Delegates to the convention to be held at Pendleton, Ore., will be Mrs. Jewett, Mrs. Lee Mellish, Mrs. Seitz, Mrs. Ca pello and Mrs. Joseph Tom jack.
