No date has been set for the wedding. wwe . . 4 ft. 7 Mis Janice Butts (Landis photo) Couple to Wed In May Service Shady Cove-Trail - Mr. and Mrs. Max Hawks, Shady Cove, announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Patricia Hawks, to Gregory W. Baxter, son of Mrs. Mae Baxter, Medford. The wedding is planned for 7 o'clock Tuesday, May 31, and will be a lawn ceremony at the home of the bride's parents. Miss Hawks Is a bookkeep er for Fluhrer's bakeries, Medford. Mr. Baxter is a member of the Oregon State police and is stationed at Medford. 4 Meads Arrive From Arizona; Stable Planned Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mead have recently arrived from Litchfield Park, Ariz., and are living at 2308 Spring street. Mr. and Mrs. Mead have four children. The oldest son is in the Army, and is stationed at Fort Sill, Okla. Their thre daughters are remaining tem porarily In California with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Mead are planning to start a riding stable here. They formerly op erated riding stables for the Wigwam hotel, in Arizona, and have approximately 30 horses. Prior to moving to Arizona, Mr. Mead was a resident of Grants Pass for many years. Luncheon Meeting Held in Hornbrook Hornbrook - Rain and high winds forced a chanRe of plans when Mrs. Dudley Kll lingsworth entertained the Woman's Society of the Meth odist church. A barbecued chicken luncheon, planned for the patio, was served indoors instead. Mrs. Kllllngsworth is presi dent of the organization. Suf ficient additional items were turned in at the meeting to complete the second of six layettes the group has pledged to furnish this year to the Sis kiyou General hospital In Yreka. Hall was an nounced May 7 at the Sou thern Oregon college Junior Senior Prom. The bride-elect is a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Winchell, 471 Ross Lane North. Mr. Hall's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence A. Hall, Route 4, Box 371, Grif fin Creek road. Miss Winchell is a 1959 graduate of Medford High school and is a freshman in elementary education at Sou thern Oregon college. She is secretary of the freshman class. Mr. Hall is a 1958 graduate of Medford High school and is a sophomore in secondary education at Southern Oregon college. He was Yell King for the college this year. Miss Paulson was gradu ated from Walla Walla col lege, College Place, Wash., In 1957. She Is employed by the College of Medical Evangelists School of Dentis try in Loma Linda, Calif. Mr. Dalton Is employed by Family Record Plan, Inc. He has at tended Walla Walla college and plans to continue his edu cation at La Sierra college, Arlington, Calif., this fall. The tea was sponsored by the homemaking classes under the direction of Mrs. Leora Morey, instructor. Officers of the freshman- sophomore homemaking class are Miss Sue Strong, chair man, and Miss Darlene Ed mondson, secretary-treasurer. Officers of tho junior-senior homemaking class are Miss Jeanette Capello, chairman, and Miss Nola Smith, secretary-treasurer. Tea chairmen were Miss Strong, general chairman; Miss Linda Webster, pro-J grams; the Misses Capello and Kathy Olson, refreshments; Miss Edmondson, entertain ment; Miss Smith, displays; Miss June Buttram, place mats; Miss Joyce Arnold, table arrangements; ar.d Miss Judy Burg, invitations. The program Included a welcome by Mrs. Morey, pre sentation of awards, style show and several numbers sung by the Mothorslngers. The farewell was also given by Mrs. Morey. Nevita Chapter To Hold Election Central Polnt-Nevtla chap ter, Order of Eastern Star, will elect officers at a meet ing Tuesday, May 24, at 8 p.m. at the Masonic temple, Central Point. Mrs. Ted Flury will dec orate for the annual memorial service; Mrs. Frank Ward, worthy matron and Wyles Berry, worthy patron, will preside. Women Plan Installation New officers of Medford Junior Women's club will be installed and honored at a banquet Wednesday, May 25, at Rogue Valley Country club at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Gene Chamberlain will be installed as president of the group; Mrs. Richard Ackerman, first vice presi dent; Mrs. F. D. Nelson, sec ond vice president; Mrs. Bob G. Norris, recording secre tary; Mrs. Robert Hercher, treasurer; Mrs. Virgil Morton, corresponding secertary; and Mrs. William Sweet, parlia mentarian. Mrs. Robert W. Billingsley will conduct the ceremony. ' Miss Jerl Smith, student at Medford High school, was guest speaker at the May meeting of the club. Her sub ject was "Student Art" and she illustrated her talk with a number of examples of work done by students using a variety of media and tech nique. She told of the stage sets for theatrical productions which have been done by the school art department and of the student interest in the new Rogue Art gallery. Mem bers of the art classes are on duty in the gallery on Satur days and are planning a sen ior high art display for May 24-27, she said. Club members suspend business meetings for the summer months and plan monthly social activities for the season. An informal cof fee will be held in June at the home of Mrs. James Wells. Chapter Holds Annual Election Mrs. John Rector was elect ed president of the Rogue Valley chapter of the Na tional Women's Association of Allied Beverage Industries, Inc., at a luncheon meeting May 17. Other officers elected were Mrs. Leslie Wilson, first vice president; Mrs. Fairman Con nell, second vice-president; Mrs. Cora Osterhout, secre tary; and Mrs. Chris Schempp, treasurer. Mrs. Don White of the local WAABI chapter will repre sent the group at the national convention of the organiza tion June 21 through 23 in Minneapolis, Minn. Installation of new officers will be held June 13 followed by a buffet dinner at the Western room in the Pioneer club, Central Point. Other officers elected were: Miss Elois Gantenbein, Port land, president; Mrs. Gladys Kats, Eugene, vice-president and Miss Carol Waterman, Sa lem, secretary. Theme for the convention was "Every Man A Debtor To His Profession" and speak ers for the event included Dr. R. W. Lindholm, Prof. George Hopkins and Prof. John Hopkins, all from the University of Oregon staff and Gail V. Packard, Traffic Engineer for Jones Sc Son. About 60 secretaries were in attendance for the two day affair. Officers for the coming year, elected at the last meet ing of the local chapter, will be installed at the June meet ing. They are Mrs. Jeanne Rose, president; Mrs. Jeanne Brown, vice-president; Mrs. Kay Thomas, secretary; Mrs. Kay Jandreau, treasurer. Shower Party Honors Bride A wedding shower was giv en May 12 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Dunlap, 3278 Delta Waters road, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Cleland Carson. The Carsons were married May 5 in the Park Wedding chapel, Reno, Nev. Mrs. Carson is the former Mary Faye Hinton. A violet and orchid wagon, covered by an umbrella, was loaded with gifts and present ed to the bride. Games were played, and prizes were won by Mrs. Mae Issi, Mrs. Boyd Carson and Miss Janet Issi. Assisting Mrs. Dunlap with serving were Mrs. Boyd Car son and Miss Gayle Carson. Guests attending were Mrs. A. A. Frost, Mrs. L. P. Supper Honors Lodge Members Members of the Roseburg Eagles lodge paid a surprise visit to the Crater Lake aerie and auxiliary Thursday eve ning. The visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Earl McCoy, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Forrest, Mr. and Mrs. George Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Coates. Following the auxiliary meeting a buffet supper was held in honor of the 33 new members initiated during the past year. Mrs. Stuart Forbes was chairman for the event. Bouquets of iris decorated the hall and silver candelabra and a variety of flowers were on the tables. Mrs. Jack Satterlee presid ed at the punch bowl and Mrs. Theodore Weixel poured coffee. Mrs. Marvin Hedges cut and served the cake. Assisting in the serving were Mrs. Mary Fredericks and Mrs. Arthur Klatt. Mrs. Ethyl Weed made the parasol favors and Mrs. Lyle Pickell and Mrs. A. W. (Brainerd photo) Spring Grand Held by Camp Annual spring grand coun cil fire was held by the Rogue Council of Camp Fire Girls Thursday evening in the Hed- rick Junior High school gym nasium. Miss Christy Allingham, a member of the Ayuzunta Hor. izon club, opened the cere- hony with the lighting of the WOHELO candle. Hand sign was performed by all girls In the Camp Fire circle. The entire two circles of Camp Fire Girls sang Camp Fire song "Burn, Fire, Burn." Candlelighting ceremony was given by Vicki Hall, Janet Kolkemo and Sharon Fletch er. The Blue Bird candle- lighting ceremony was per formed by Patu Lough, Lynda Evans, Karen Brabham, Judy Hedberg, Ann Gerety, Debbie Elder and Candy Collins. National awards were pre sented by Mrs. Tom Gerety, executive director of the coun cil. They included three and five year national member ship, Red Cross swimming, and national memory book awards and National Needle work guild honors. The Camp Fire Girls credo was presented b y Sharon Baize, Nancy Burger, Lynn Culbertson, Vicki Hall. The newly organized Camp Fire Girls chorus sang "Mammy Moon." National Ranks National ranks were award ed by Mrs. J. P. Rowan, first vice-president of the Rogue council. Forthy-three girls earned the rank of trail seek er during the year. Mrs. W. I. Lynn Culbertson, Nancy Burger and Sharon Baize re ceived their torch bearer craftmanship ranks in citizen ship, nature and art from Mrs. Pierre Roberts, Council pres ident. Torch bearer in social leadership was .presented to Miss Ann Younger and Miss Susan Baize by County Judge Earl Miller, an honorary Camp Fire Girl. "That Light" the Torch Bearer's song was sung by Re becca Rowan, Linda Morlan and Chris Prentice. Candle extinguishing cere mony was given by Sherry Blackledge, Diane Clark and Julie Hoxworth. Singing of the "Recessional" concluded the program. Mrs. William Prentice played the piano for the grand council fire and Mrs. Herb Partridge, Council field director, acted as mistress of ceremonies. The Camp Fire Girl council is a member of the United Medford Crusade and the Ash land, Talent United Fund.
