The golfers, representing Oregon, OSC, Washington State and Idaho, will play on the picturesque Corvallis Country club courts, while netters from the same schools will vie on the OSC courts, adjacent to the Coliseum. University of Washington teams, normally In northern division affairs, will miss both affairs because of par ticipation in "Big Five" tourn aments on the same weekend. Oregon will be favored to sweep golf honors, but com petition should be keen. On its home course, Oregon State could be tough. In tennis, the Beavers draw the favorite s role. Tradition ally the runner-up team be hind Washington, Oregon State could move up a notch this time. Oregon's Prep Athlete of Year To Be Named First annual KOIN Radio Oregon high school athlete of the year award neared its cli max this past week as the Board of Judges picked six finalists from the 33 nomina tions received from schools in every corner of the state. The new annual competi tion, started by KOIN Sports caster Johnny Carpenter, is an attempt to find the most out standing Oregon high school athlete from the standpoint of athletic achievement, scholas tic standing and extra-curric ular or citizenship activities. As Carpenter puts it: "This KOIN Radio award is de signed to do away, once and for all, with the 'dumb ath lete fallacy." And the judges a lr e a d y agree, expressing their honest amazement at the ! remarkable caliber of the 33 young men and women nomi nated by their schools lor the award. The athlete of the year will be selected from among the six finalists this coming week end. And permanent trophies will be presented to both the athlete and the school wmcn he or she represents. .
