Mtr4, Or., WtdaMdsy, Mir II. 10 Gardeners Plan Club Workshop Saturday Morning Central Point - Mrs. Rob ert Schmidt announces that Central Point Garden club i will hold a workshop at the home of Mrs. John lloliner. Old Stage road. Saturday, May 21. at 10:00 a.m. Every one attending is to take a sack lunch. Coffee will be served. Mrs. Gaston Floux will di rect the day-long session. The purpose is to gain a further understanding of flower ar rangements and the June flower show schedule. The theme of the flower show will be "The Gal with the Green Thumb-She Knows Them- She Grows Than - She Shows Them." Mrs. R. D. Kay is the flower show chairman. It is suggested that those participating in the workshop bring flower con tainers and other articles needed for making arrange nicnts. Numerous activities were on the calendar for May. The monthly meeting was at the M. II. Cotton residence, Hill side drive, May 4. The business meeting was preceded by tours of gardens at the llol mer, Charles Taylor, Kugene Orr and Curtis Hopkins' homes. The fourth tour was fol lowed by a luncheon and a business meeting. An invita tion to host the fall district meeting was accepted. Mrs. Lester Gordon and Mrs. Wallace West were ap pointed as delegates to repre sent the club at the state con vention in Pendleton, June 20-22. Monday, May 8, club mem bers drove to Cave Junction to view the unusual garden at the II. O. Smith residence. Mrs. Smith then accompanied the group to Rough and Ready State park and through her guidance, the women found many wild flowers, some of which arc not found in this area. Mrs. Robert Schmidt re minded members and anyone interested that the Central Point library has an outstand ing collection of books on gar dening and related subjects. The next meeting of the Central Point Garden club will be June 1 at the home of Mrs. Donald A. Faber. Buckles-Bows To Hold Dance A fisherman's square dance parly will be held Saturday, May' 21. at the Bellview Grange hall near Ashland by Buckles and Bows club. Dancing will start at H;3U p.m. with games and prizes planned in addition to dan cing. Costumes are optional. Floyd Workman will call the squares and all dancers and callers are invited. The club will hold a clam chowder feed with members to take dessert it was re ported. Waggin' Wheelers will hold a square dance at the Wash ington school gymnasium Sat urday. Mrs. Frank Bear and Mrs. Cecelia Thompson attended a meeting of the Catholic dean ery held recently at Weed, Calif. Ninety - four women from Catholic parishes in Sis kiyou county were present. After the meeting. Mrs. Bear and Mrs. Thompson continued to Dunsmuir where they were guests of Mrs. Thompson's sister. Mrs. Ralph Chadwick and Miss Penny Barnum attended the Girl Scout leadership training camp held recentlv at the Girl Scout camp site, Tomlin Forest, in the Little Switzerland area near Med ford. Hornbrook Woman Enlists in Corps Hornbrook - Miss Lulabelle Whitten, daughter of Mrs. Mrs. Pauline Whitten, Yreka, has enlisted in the Women's Army corps, and will leave in about two weeks for her six months' basic training in Ala- bama. Miss Whitten was graduated from Hornbrook grammar school and Yreka high school, class of 1958. Since finishing high school she has been em ployed by Ralph Bennett at the Black Mountain Lumber company here and in Yreka. SOC Concert Announced Ashland - Southern Ore gon Little Symphony orches tra will present a spring con cert Sunday, May 22, at 3 p.m. in Churchill hall auditor ium on the Southern Orejon college campus, it was an nounced by Dr. Herbert Cecil, director. Soloists for the concert will be SOC students Aida Oka tnoto, Herbert Bell, and James Maffett. MissOkamoto will play the first movement of Grieg's "Concerto in A Minor" for piano and orchestra. Bell and Maffett are Trumpeters and will solo in a performance of Vivaldi's "Concerto for Two Trumpets and String Orches tra." There will be no admission charge for the performance. Dr. Cecil said; however an offering will be accepted for the music scholarship fund. To give plum pudding or fruit-cake a flaming touch, top each serving with a sugar cube dipped in lemon extract. Dinner Given McLeod - A family dinner was held at the home of Mrs. Caroline Harding Saturday, May 14. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hobernik, Roseburg; Mr. and Mrs. John Dame and daughter, Johynn, Anaheim. Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hume and twin daughters. Jacqueline and Josephine. Newcomers Shady Cove - Newcomers to Shac'y Cove are Mr. and Mrs. Noel Davidson and chil dren, Steven, Deborah, Thom as and Timothy, who came here from San Diego, Calif. The family iias rented the Ward house in the Cove. i home of Mrs. Lusks parents Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Coulter at Cook's Landing. Wash., May 8, 1901. Mr. Lusk was a logger at the time but they moved to Jackson county in 1930 where they purchased a farm and lived until 1948. Mr. Lusk re tired at that time and they moved to their present home in Eagle Point. The Lusks have two daugh ters. Mrs. Lillian Hoehn, Red wood City, Calif., and Mrs. Clough in Central Point; five sons. Boyd at Eugene; Rex at Walla Walla, Wash.; Ivan in Central Point: Arthur in Med ford; and Herbert at Palo Alto, Calif. They have 131 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Mrs. Lusk said that all fam ily members were home on their 50th anniversary and will all come home next year when they celebrate their 00th anniversary. They are planning an open house for their friends and relatives at that time. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lusk are in good health and spend much time studying the Bible. Following the meeting a movie with sound effects made by pupils of the sixth grade was shown in the gym nasium by William Croucher, teacher. It was announced that the achievement award night will be held May 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Shady Cove school, with awards to be pre sented for achievement in sports and scholarship.
