Buckle has reported. The rural fire proleclion board of directors has award ed the contract to Coast Ap paratus Inc., Martinez, Calif. The custom built vehicle will be mounted on a General Motors chassis with a V-6 en gine of 165 horsepower. The tank of 800 gallon ca pacity will be marie of hot dipped galvanized steel to en sure freedom from rust. It also includes twin electric reels for easier handling of booster hoses, one 2'2-inch hose connection on each side and one 1 'i-inch connection at the rear for maximum ef ficiency, Buckle said. There will be also one .1 lnch suction hose connection at each side, and one at the front of the truck for greater water availability. All con trols are grouped at the panel on the Irft side for one-man control of all functions. A two -stage pump, capable of 2 0 gallon., per miiiule at 150-pound pressure and high pressure fog at 600 pounds pressure will cover various fire-fighting requirements, he explained. The fire truck will be equip ped with the latest type of electronic airen which can be converted to a auper loud penker for any emergency such as flood warning. All other necessary equipment such as lights, ladders, extin guishers and booster hose will be supplied by the builders. "This truck was specially designed to help overcome the manpower shortage inasmuch as it will be a complete de partment by itself," according to the assistant fire chief. More volunteer firemen are needed, especially during day light hours, Buckle said. The apparatus will be ac quired under a rental-loase-purchase agreement. No ad ditional funds will be raised through higher taxation, the assistant chief explained. Cur rent revenue plus additional revenue from a contemplated addition of territory to the district will finance the new equipment. Buckle said. Payment in full should be . completed in 5' years after delivery, expected within 80 to 120 Jays. 50C Graduation Scheduled June 5 Ashland - The 34th annual commencement exercises for Southern Ore jon college will be held Sunday, June 5, begin ning with an alumni breakfast in the college commons at 8 a.m., according to Mrs. Mabel W. Baccalaureate services will be conducted in Churchill hall auditorium at n 30 a.m. with seniors and faculty scheduled to line up at 9:20 a.m. for the processional. Traditional commencement exercises will begin at 4 p.m. in Llthla park with Dr. George Glen Kendall, presi dent of Chico Stale college, presenting the main nridrej!
