It meant that oth-1 happened Jackson Park Pool Filled for Test The Jack.on park swim ming pool was filled for the first time Thursday when contractors filled the pool to test for leak.iRe. The test is being conducted prior to actual plastering and finishing of the pool to deter mine just how much leakane exists. The contract with the city specifies that such a test be made. Contractors for the pool, the National fiunitc company and the Holiday Pool Con struction company have asked the city for n 15-riay extension of the final completion date of the pool. If the council grants the re quest it would mean the pool would be completed and turned over to the city May 27, which would have no effect on the city's date for dedication of the pool June 10. City Parks and Recreation Director Robert Haworth pointed out that the delay will not have any adverse affect on the city's summer swimming program, because It had not been scheduled to start until after dedication ceremonies. Reasons for the extension, as stated by the contractors in a letter to the city, are given as delays caused by adverse weather conditions, delays in the delivery of equipment which the contractors had ordered and the addition of the wading pool to the over all project. New Offices for City Police Department to Be Ready Next Week John Jay served as United States minister to Austria from 1869 to 1874. Three new offices being constructed for the Medford city police department should be completed and ready for occupancy by the end of next week, according to Charles P Champlin, Medford police chief. One of the new offices will serve as a report room for police officers, and the other two offices will he used by Hie detective division. Room for the much - needed new office space is being made by partioning off a portion of the jail. Chief Champlin poinled out that the new offices will not reduce any of the prisoner capacity of the jail. It will still have 10 bunk beds. City prisoners have been confined in the county jail while construction is going on, Champlin noted. Wall Completed A reinforced concrete wall was completed last week be tween the jail and the new offices and partitions for the offices will go up shortly. Bunks have been re-install ed on the Jail side of the new wall and plumbing fixtures for a jail shower and toilet are in the process of being completed. Total cost of the work is estimated by Champlin at $2,400. This will be paid out of funds which the depart ment saved from its 1DSH-1HH0 budget. Champlin said there will be some problem in providing for adequate ventilation of the new offices. The jail, however, will be no problem he noted, since it has always had rela tively good ventilation. Sen. John Lri c wiiton F. Ken n e d y (D-Mass.) did not get full credit for his victory last month in the Wisconsin presi dential primary. A compli cated voting procedure plus a substantial Catholic Republi can element in the electorate blurred the returns. The basic fact in the Wis consin returns was that Ken nedy licked Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey (D - Minn.) and licked him good. It became in- interested in stopping, had to move fast and together ! to get the job done. ! Volunteers Sought For Search of Body Volunteers are being sought by the family and relatives of Barry Lynn Bell, Klamath Falls, who drowned in the Klamath river three weeks ago, to search the river in the Keno area for the boy's body today. Portland Knifing Charges Dropped Portland llil'll - CharRcs against two men for the knif ing of a pair of University of Portland students last week were dropped here Thursday The district attorney's of fice said the charges were dropped for lack of sufficient evidence. The men charged were Jim mie L. Minjarez, 25. Walsh said that boats and personnel from the Rogue Marine Ski club may be used this year. So far the county hag re ceived $4,000 in allocations from boat license fees.
