Philip Getchell-Lazvson Rites Held In St. Matthews Episcopal A wedding of interest to valley residents was held at St. Matthews Episcopal church, Portland, April 23, when Miss Claudia Jean Law son of that city became the bride of the Rev. Philip A. Getchell, curate of St. Mat thews and son of Mr. and Mrs. Mayard M. Getchell, 28 Ash land street, Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Joe C. Law son, Portland, are the bride's parents. The Right Rev. James W. F. Carman, bishop of the Dio cese of Oregon, officiated at the single ceremony held at four o'clock in the afternoon, and the Rev. H. B. Lamer, rec tor of St. Matthews, celebrat ed the nuptial eucharist. Mrs. Daniel Sizemore, Seal tie, Wash., aunt of the bride groom, played the organ wed ding music. The St. Matthews church choir sang. Attending the rites were 400 relatives and friends. Easter lilies and white gladi oli were at the altar and sprays of pink and rose gladi oli marked the choir pew ends. The Episcopal Women of St. Matthews decorated the church and were in charge of the reception which fol lowed In the church parish hall. The bride wore a floor length gown of delustered satin and lace. Her fingertip length veil was held by a seed pearl crown and she car ried orchids and stephanotis on a prayer book. Mr. Law son gave his daughter in mar riage. Mrs. Hugh Ross, Arlington, Texas, was honor attendant for her sister. Miss Diana Getchell, Medford, sister of the bridegroom, Mrs. Wayne Gaylin and Miss Peggy Johnesse, both Portland, were bridesmaids and matron. They all wore pink polished cotton sheath frocks with short pink veils and carried bouquets of calla lilies. Roy Morgan, Portland, served as best man and seat ing the guests were Hugh G. Starkweather, Portland; Wil liam McAllister Jr. and Justin M. Smith Jr., both Salem. All the men were former Medford residents. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Lawson wore a navy blue dress with white accessories and white carnation corsage. Mrs. Getchell chose a wheat Lodge Votes To Sponsor Scout Olive Rebekah lodge voted lo sponsor a Girl Scout at camp this summer at a recent meeting. The lodge accepted the resignation of George Wimer as drill captain and Mrs. Don ald M. Ivie was elected to fill the position. Several of the Theta Rho girls put on entertainment be fore the meeting. The next meeting will be held Monday. May 16, at 8 p m. at the Odd Fellow hall. Refreshments will be served by Mrs. C. D Hershiser, Mrs. Orphia Wendel and Mrs. Nel lie Gibson. Among those assisting with the serving at the reception were Mrs. McAllister Jr. and Mrs. Smith Jr. The couple traveled to San Francisco on their wedding trip and are making their home in Portland until July when they will leave for Sao Paulo, Brazil, where Mr. Getchell has accepted a post to one of the Episcopal mis sionary dioceses. The bride attended Port land schools and is a student at the University of Oregon Medical school in radiology. Mr. Getchell is a graduate of Medford High school, Stan ford university and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific. Among the out of town guests attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Wil liams and children, Gail and David, Medford; Dr. and Mrs. Christopher Williams, Salem; Justice and Mrs. William Mc Allister, Salem, and Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Hedberg. Port land. The evening prior to the wedding Mr. and Mrs. Getch ell entertained members of the bridal party, out of town guests, Bishop Carman and Mrs. Carman at a rehearsal dinner at the airport private dining room. During the afternoon many friends and relatives called on the couple at their new trailer home. 1557 Stew art avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Young were married in Medford April 30, 1910, at the Parkview hotel, which was located at Holly and Eighth streets. The Rev. W. E. Good officiated. Mrs. Young is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Auxiliary Holds Initiation Event Butte Falls-The May meet ing of the Butte Falls Lions auxiliary was the initiation ceremony for new members held at the home of Mrs. An drew Hamstra Tuesday, May 3, Bt 8 p.m. New members initiated were Mrs. Arthur Williams, Mrs. Ben Sheppard, Mrs. Hen ry Tygart, Mrs. Michael Esles, and Mrs. Allan Pintle. Mrs. James Capello was also initi ated, by proxy. She was in the hospital at the time. Officiating officers were Mrs. Glen Cathy and Mrs. Bruce Pingle, past-presidents. At the conclusion of the cere mony new members were pre sented club pins and corsages. Guests from the Medford Crater Lions auxiliary were Mrs. Don Dwyer, district di rector for District E, and Mrs. George Potucek. Mrs. Dwyer was presented an or chid corsage as "mother" of the Butte Falls group. The June meeting of the Butte Falls Lions auxiliary will be held Tuesday, June 7, at the home of Mrs. Roger Harris. Election of officers will be held. Ladies of Elk To Meet Tuesday Medford Ladies of the Elks will meet Tuesday, May 17 at 1 p.m. in the downstairs party lounge at the Elks tem ple. There will be a salad luncheon served followed by their semi-monthly card party. Mrs. David Crosby, Mrs. Dwight L. Seely, and Mrs. L. F. Bittle, winners at cards at the last meeting, will serve refreshments. All wives and widows of members of the Elks are in vited to attend. Potluck Dinner A potluck dinner will be served at the social evening planned by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, barracks 540, and auxiliary for May 18 at Girls Community club. Mrs. J. P. A gold-colored cloth cov ered the table which was cen tered with an arrangement of gold chrysanthemums and a gold-painted "money tree." Two granddaughters. Tam ara Smith and Susan Young, were in charge of the guest book. The Young's three grandsons, Keith Smith. Greg Smith and Michael Young, were among the guests. Others attending including the couple's sons, Robert Young, Portland, and Charles Young, Jacksonville. All four of their children attended the event. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wilson. Merlin, Ore., also were in Medford for the an niversary. Measures To Be Topic Fred Robinson will explain measures to be voted on dur ing the coming election at a meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union Thursday, May 19, at the First Presbyterian church in the fireplace room. Following Mr. Robinson's talk a question and answer period will be held. In the recent poster contest sponsored by members of the Union, first place was award ed to Miss Kay Kent, First Methodist church; second to John Lampkin, First Presby terian, and third to Miss Mar garet Garris, First Baptist. Cash awards were present ed lo each of the winners. Judges for the contest were Mrs. D. Kirkland West, the Rev. Escil Hiser, president of the Medford Ministerial asso ciation, and Elliott Becken. The local union is prepar ing to entertain delegates from the Southern Oregon district at a meeting to be held in the First Presbyterian church on May 27 beginning at 9 a.m. At thai time state officers will be present to conduct workshops. Delegates are expected from Coos, Klamath, Josephine, Douglas and Jackson counties. Hostesses for the meeting to be held May 19 will be headed by Mrs. Fred Reich. Three Home Extension Units Hold Installation of Officers New officers were installed at recent meetings of the Derby, Lake Creek and E;ii;lr! Point Home Extension units. Derby Mrs. Oscar Barlow is pres ident for the coming year for the Derby unit. Mrs. Charles Hayes is vice-president; Mrs. Floyd Bur, secretary; and Mrs. Dan McKeen, treasurer. They were installed by Mrs. Gay llaworlh, a past presi dent, and presented corsages by Mrs. Tony Hnckaba, out going president. The group met May II at the home of Mrs. Anion Coth rin. Mrs. Porter Allen and Mrs. McKeen were leaders of the outdoor cookery project. Eagle Point Mrs. James Johnson, who moved lo Eagle Point last August from Texas, was in stated last Thursday as pres ident of the Eagle Point unit. Mrs. David Kahl Is the new vice-president; Mrs. LeRoy Draper secretary; and Mrs. Elmer Harnish, treasurer. Mrs. Glenn Clymer installed the officers and presented the president her badge of office. The outgoing president, Mrs. Don Kimmel, pinned cor sages on the new officers.
