nized world shot put record
in the Drake relays Saturday
with a throw of 63 feet, 1H4
inches.
The mark was posted as
Nieder beat record-holder
Parry O'Brien for only the
third time in 19 tries.
Nieder, who earlier this
year tossed the 16-pound ball
65 feet 7 inches in the Texas
relays, hit over 63 feet three
times in his four measured
tosses. His other tries were
63-10, 63-8, and 62-2V2, and he
got his best distance on his
fifth try.
O'Brien, whose world rec
ord toss of 63 feet 4 inches
was set last year, hit 63 feet
