Atherlon, Calif. -(UPI)- Shir ley Temple is 32 years old to day - and living proof that child movie stars don't neces sarily grow up to be spoiled and maladjusted. Miss Temple, whose Income ranked seventh in the nation when she was nine, is happily married, has three children and lives the life of a typical suburban matron. At her one-story, 10-room home In this northern Cali fornia city, the lovely 5-foot-2 brunette explained; "Most of my time Is taken up with health work for chil dren. "I work about 20 hours month as a volunteer recep tionist at Children's Health Council, a place for mentally retarded and other ill young sters. I answer the phones and keep the schedules. Volunteer at Hospital "There are also six charily groups, and about five hours a week, I'm a volunteer at Stanford hospital. That's only in the morning. In the after noon, I'm home with my children." Her children are Linda Susan, 11, by her first hus band, actor John Agar; and Charles, 8, and Lori, 6, by her mate for the past 10 years, Charles Black, finance direc tor of the Ampex Corp. in Redwood City, Calif. Miss Temple also Is mem bership chairman of the Peninsula Children's Theatre Association, but has yet to act in its plays with other moth ers. "The acting bug hasn't bit ten me yet," she laughed. "I'm a very mean usher, by the way. If the children are bad in the theatre, I scare them." Probably the most impor tant personal task for Miss Temple these days Is her na tional chairmanship of the Multiple Sclerosis fund drive. 'It s because of my brother George," she said. "He was once a big marine and pro fessional wrestler. But for nine years, he's been In a wheelchair with this disease. He has it in both legs, al though he can walk with the help of aluminum canes." Miss Temple's interest in others has resulted greatly from the guidance of her childhood guardians, who nev er let her ego get out of hand even though she was the big gest movie star in the country. "Personal appearances, like many of the youngsters are making today, tend to Inflate one's self-importance - and I was never allowed to go on them," she said. Ultimatum Issued "Winnie Sheean, the boss of 20th Century-Fox, issued an ultimatum to my mother when I first worked there: no ap pearances and no eating in the 20th commissary. He didn't want people coming by and telling me how good I was. "Winnie said I'd become too aware of what I was doing - and spoiled. So I al ways ate in a bungalow with my mother. When I was 11, my parents did a wise thing. They put me In a school for girls. I'd always had a private tulor, and the school made me aware of every-day girl problems." Does she want her own children to go into show busi ness? "If they so desire, It's fine with me," she said. "But I can't see any great urge among them. They had their big chances when they did 'Mother Goose' with me on TV - but they seem to get just as big a kick from going to the supermarket with me."
