Thursday, April 21, 190 A" Crater Lake Post, VFWr Elects New Officers for Year Victor David hai b t n elected commander of Crater Lake post 1833, Veterans of Foreign Warn, for the coming year. Other officers elected at the j post's recent annual meeting ; were William H. Harper, senior vice commander; Jake H. Farriher, junior vice com. mander; Louis Kula, post quartermaster; Ira D. Can field, chaplain; Ivan J. Lusk, surgeon; H. C. Sutherlund, judge advocate; and Fat Doyle, trustee. Ray Lawless was appointed officer of the day; Ed Smith, adjutant; Lusk, guard; and Bennie Westgate, post service officer. Installation Htld Installation of officers was held Tuesday night. Canfield, a past Oregon department commander, was installing commander and Harry Birch, also a past department com mander, served as aide de camp. The new post commander is a 17-year member of the VFW; a 21year member of the Elks club; and a 13-year mem ber of the Eagles lodge. He is president of the vet erans allied council of Jack son county, a life-member of the National Rifle association and a member of the civil air patrol. He is a Navy veteran. The new commander's pro gram is to be "to help the vet eran help himself, and to help rid our country and the world of communism." Fagone Participating In Yakima Exercise Capt. Sebastian J. Fagone, of headquarters company, 6337th U.S. Army reserves, is taking part in this week's Army exercise "Elk Horn" at the Yakima, Wash., firing center. The exercise, directed by the Army, involves nearly 18, 000 troops, most of which will come from the 4th infantry division at Yakima. Captain Fagone was or dered to headquarters exer cise director from Sunday, April 17, to May 26. The ex ercise, which includes tactical play "war" maneuvers, is part of a "vigorous training pro gram scheduled for the 4th division this year," it was re ported.. Thief Uses Fishing Technique for Loot Chicago Police tell the one about the burglar who fished for mink. One night, they said, a bur glar went to an exclusive fur shop armed with a toy pistol that shoots darts with suction cup tips. He had fish hooks on the darts Instead of cups. He aimed thorugh a pack age drop, police said, fired one of the darts into a stole on a manikin, then used a line to pull the garment out. How's they figure it out? Quotas Available In Navy Trade Schoofs Many quotas are available in Navv trade schools during April, the Navy recruiting sta tion in Medford announced to- Hav. "In order to balance the out put of our schools, we are seeking high school graduates to fill existing quotas before the influx of this year's grad uates," Recruiter Murray J. Emmerich explained.
