In this, the doctor may blow a little gas Into the womb. He can tell, then, from the pressure on his gauge, whether the gas has easily run out through at least one of the Fallopian tubes that leadoff on each side from the womb. The gas test may show that both tubes are plugged tight, and then the woman is sterile. When normally-func tioning, one of these tubes picks up the tiny egg as it comes from the ovary, and passes it along toward the womb. If not fertilized in the tube by a spermatozoon (from the husband) the ovum will pass through the womb and be lost. If it should be fertilized, it Is likely to be "Implanted" in the wall of the womb, where In nine months it can grow to ma turity. Unforunately, many things can go wrong, even when the little egg has been fertilized. A while ago, as I visited with Dr. George Corner, one of world's greatest experts on the tiny ova (eggs) and what happens to them, he said that after a lifetime of rcascarch, he still does not have an swers to most of the questions that arise in his mind, Much more study is needed. Some times a woman will become pregnant when given a little thyroid substance each day. Curiously, even dissatisfac tion with her husband ap pears to be responsible for keeping an occasional woman from getting pregnant.
