Wont Seek Hie Support
Mrs. Neuberger made
clear that ehe has no lnten

sumed" she would have the
backing of other members
the Oregon congressional dele
gation.
She said she expects Morse
to win the Oregon presides

aneaa or bens. Lyndon B.

they are better known.
Her own personal candidate
for the Democratic president

selecting another possibility
because Stevenson is not run
ning In the primary.
Mrs. Neuberger appeared
pale and thin, but In discuss
ing her political future she
spoke with animation.
Going Home in May
She told reporters she was
sure her husband would be
"glad" she was running.
"That's the only reason I'm
doing It," she added.
She said she expects to
leave for Oregon between
May 7 and S.
Mrs. Neuberger also said
Gov. Mark Hatfield might be
a late entry in the Senate race
against her.
She said Hatfield was
"scheduled" to run for the
Senate in 1862, when Morse
is up for reelection, "but if
he felt I was easier pickings,
he'd be In there."
Mrs. Neuberger said Hat
field could be entered in the
race after the primary by the
state GOP Central Committee
if the candidate nominated
May 20 withdrew due to Ill
ness or other reasons.
She noted that Hatfield had
recently denied any such Intention.

Portland-flJPn-Tlie First Na
tional Bank of Oregon today
announced plans to spend
$1,700,000 for what it called
one of the most advanced
lectronic bank data process
ing systems in the country.
C. B. Stcphen-sen, president
of the 82-o f f i c e statewide
banking system, said the order
was placed with International
Business Machines Corpora
tion. He said it would be the
first large scale magnetic tape
computer installation in a Pa
cific Northwest bank.
The system will be installed
by the end of 1961.
Stephensen said the bank
was turning to the electronic
equipment to keep pace with
increasing volume of
checks and to cope with the
time-consuming task of book
keeping.
Although numbered com
mercial accounts will be used
throughout the statewide sys
tem, complete conversion to
electronic data processing,
which performs many book
keeping functions now done
manually, will be confined to
the bank's ofices in the Port
land Metropolitan area, Ste
phensen said.
