Strand, president of Oregon Stat college, Cor vallis, will apeak here April J7 at a meeting of the 30 Staten, alumni group. Stu dent! from v a r 1 o u high schools in the county will be guests. Jack Hanel wag elected president of 30 Staters at a meeting last week at the Rogue Valley Country club. Lee Dressier was elected vice president, and Gene Winters, secretary. Dr. Richard Fred ricka is retiring president. Spec Keene, OSC director of athletics, installed the offi cers. Paul Valenti, assistant basketball coach, spoke con cerning the coming year's basketball prospects, and Rob ert Knoll, alumni director, also talked to the group. All OSC alumni are invited to the April 27 meeting, which will be held at Kim's at 7 o.m. Reservations may be made by contacting any of the new of ficers, Hanel reported. Grange Notes Upper Applegat Grange The Upper Applegat Grange met in their hall April 8. All officers present except Overseer and Chaplain, pro temed by Mr. and Mrs. George Redhead, respectively Six candidates were elected to receive the degrees. The first and second degrees will be conferred at Williams Grange Friday, April 15 by the Phoenix degree team. On April 29, Roxy Ann's degree team will confer the third and fourth degrees to all candi dates, also at Williams Grange. Th agricultural chairman reported on the prices of cat tle, sheep, hogs and pencil manufacturing. The quarterly reports of the secretary and home economics chairman were read and ac cepted. The use of the hall was granted to the Home Exten sion Unit for their festival May 6. There will be a dance In the hall April 23. Our next meeting will be an open meeting. AU county candidates plan to attend and possibly a few state and na tional candidates. Everyone li invited to come and meet the candidates. Ladies of the Grange are asked to take a dozen cup cakes. Ballots were cast for state Grange officers. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Harr were escorted to the master's station to receive a silver certificate for 25 years continuous membership in the Grange. Permission was granted to ii mambcri of the McKee families for a pot luck dinner Easter Sunday. Tir r.irf fiwheardt met r,,nu , Peri Cross board of directors and conveyed their thanks for the use ol ine nau and for the program given there by all organizations of the Applegate valley. A poem entitled "The Red Cross, written by Mrs. Leon Offen bacher was sent to the region al hall in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Gerheardt read the poem at the program. The lecture hour, under the direction of Mrs. Glenn Salt- marsh, commenced with a poem and all members par ticipating in 1U commands. Mrs. Bert Harr gave a reading called "Income Tax." The pro gram was concluded with group singing. Omar Culy instructed our new members in balloting. a nitntviri Dav dinner is planned for May 8. Lake Creek Grange Jay Elliott, commercial de partment, Copco, was a guest at the April meeting. He showed the film, "Rescue Breathing." The film provided information for the proper method of mouth breathing for an unconscious person from drowning, bodily injury and effects of electricity. The method gets air into the lungs quickly.
