Baker, Griffin Creek road, Medford, announce the engagement of their daughter, Barbara Edith, to James Henderson Hayes son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hayes, Heppner, Ore. Miss Baker was graduated from Ashland High school where she was a member of the National Honor society, She is a senior at Oregon State college majoring in business education. She is af filiated with Alpha Gamma Delta, national society soror lty, and is also a member of Phi Chi Theta, honor society for women in business. Mr. Hayes was graduated from O.S.C. with a degree In agriculture. He is affiliated with Theta Xi national social fraternity, and is a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, music honorary. No date has been set for the wedding. Mitt Barbara Baker Meeting Thursday Reames chapter. Order of the Eastern Star, will hold a stated meeting, Thursday, April 14, at 8 p.m. in the Medford Masonic temple, Mrs. Audrey Roberts, wor thy matron, and Carl Oestreich, worthy patron, will preside. Following the meeting re freshments will be served in the dining hall. Mrs. Carl Oestreich and Mrs. Zerald Laurine will be chairman. Si .4 v 0 4, if 'I SHOE COMPANY Mitt Mary Lou Craig (Fehly photo) Betrothal News Told at School Announcement of the en gagement of Mist Mary Lou Craig, Klamath Falls, to Al bert Boardman, Medford, was made recently at Miss Craig's sorority house, Gamma Phi Beta, at the University of Ore gon. The bride-to-be is a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd J. Craig, 5300 Shasta Way, Kla math Falls. Her fiance is the son of Mrs. Alberta Board man, 728 West Fourth street. Both Miss Craig and her fiance are graduating seniors at the University. Miss Craig is majoring in English educa tion and Mr. Boardman in business administration. No date has been set for their wedding. Deadline Parties Given Recently For Piano Pupils Two "deadline parties" were held recently at the home of Mrs. D. F. Huson, 45 Lindley street. The recitals served as a deadline or check ing period for the memoriza tion of the selections which each participant will play for the Oregon Music Teachers association adjudic a t o r In April. Each pupil was assiged two or three selections to memor ize and was graded as he played them. Mrs. Kenneth Brown acted as adjudicator for the eve ning. She questioned each stu dent as to scales, primary cnoras, cadences and dynam ics pertinent to the selections played. Students who participated were Marilyn, Wayne, and Melvln. Taylor; Alecia, Made lyn, and Laurie Beth Buono core; Janls, Ted, and John Barker; Sydney and Slilrlee Smith; Susan Benesh, Tom Capsey, Hal Blomquist, Jane and Debbie Sanborn, Tom Marler, Penny Forbes, Tom Schoppert, John Yoakley, Gregory Howes, Jennifer Wil cox, Janet Price, Margaret Doolen, Sharon Lalng, Dare lyn Huson, Ruth Wilcox, Caro lyn Baccus, Scott Thurston, and Penny Roach. A special award was offer ed to any student who could play his selection from Bach perfectly as to rhythm and notation. Ruth Wilcox and Janls Barker made perfect records and received their prizes. He is the grandson of Mrs. Gracie Day, 1028 North Central avenue. The student was sponsored in the state competition by the Travel Study Club of Med ford, an affiliate of the Ore gon Federation of Women's clubs. One hundred clubs in the state sponsored students for the award. ' Young Day submitted an oil in competition with work sub mitted by high schools throughout Oregon. The sub ject, a group of buildings along North Central avenue, is done in muted tones of greens and browns in a na turalistic manner. The theme for judging the work was based upon an "expression of the American scene and spirit." The national selection will be to determine the winner of a $600 scholarship to be awarded to some high school senior for advanced art study. The Medford student has won a number of art honors In the past. They include na tional scholastic gold keys in 1959 and I960; he has had his work in' competition In New York for national selection both years. His work also in cludes sculpturing and print making. He plans to enter profes sional art school next fall.
