Palm Benediction
Scheduled Sunday
In accordance with ancient
tradition of the church, the
benediction of the Palmi will
take place at the 8 a.m. Holy
Eucharist at St. Mark's Epis
copal church Sunday.
The Palms, especially im
ported from the Holy Land
or the purpose, will adorn
the altar, be carried by the
choir in procession, and the
remainder will be fashioned
into small crosses by mem
bers of the Altar guild, and
be distributed to worshippers
on Palm Sunday, the first
day of Holy Week.
According to traditional
practice these crosses are re
tained until Ash Wednesday
of the following year when
they are burned at the start
of another Lenten season. The
Rev. George R. V. Bolster
will preach at both 9:30 and
11 a.m. services, with musical
selections by the choir under
the direction of John E. Drys
dale. During Holy Week the Eu
charist will be celebrated each
day, Monday through Thurs
day, at 11 and 7 a.m. alter
nately. Good Friday, April 15, the
Three Hour Vigil at the Cross
will be observed from 12 noon
to 3 p.m. with the clergy lead
ing meditations on the Seven
Lsst Words. This service will
be so arranged that wor
shippers may come and go
at indicated intervals during
the afternoon.
