College Material
The proposed coordinated
program will allow high
school students to study col
lege level material while still
in high school. If the student
passes the college achieve
ment exams, he will then be
allowed to skip freshmen'
level college courses which
would duplicate this previous
training.
The committee's preliminary
studies indicate that five Ore
gon colleges, the two Eugene
high schools, and Springfield
High school have advanced
placement programs.
Many other of the state's
high schools have college pre
paratory and gifted student
programs which are not part
of an advanced placement
program.
Roland Bartel, assistant
dean of the University s Col
lege of Liberal Arts, said stir
dies show that programs such
as this will help both fast and
moderate learners to do bet
ter. The coordination and pro
motion of advanced place
ment would assure the serious
student that his quality work
in high school may be con
tinued in college.
Evergreen to Start

Lone Pine Evergreen Bus
lines will begin serving the
Lone Pine area next Monday,
a spokesman for the firm has
announced.
Busses will run every two
hours, with the first one de
parting the Roxy Ann market,
1910 Spring St., at 9:45 a.m.
and the last bus of the day
returning to the market at
3:49 p.m.
Buses had previously serv
ed this area but the service
was discontinued several
years ago.
