1 ) MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Or. A Thursday, April 7, i960 Eagle Hope To Better 1959 Record Eagle Point-A player turn' out which includes nine let- termen, a transfer and a num ber of eager freshment makes the Eagle Point high base ball club hopeful for a win ning year. The Eagles meet Glendale In their Rogue loop opener here Friday. Coach Kenneth Vannice, in his first season at the Eagle helm, says he thinks the team should do better than Eagle Point did in 1959 when it broke even in 18 games. Last year's big trouble was the mound. But, it appears the pitching staff will be stronger this season. Jim Nease and Bill Pfeifer may see the ma jority of work, but Bill Blair and Tom Perdue, both of whom have mound exper ience probably will see action in early games. Nease has de veloped some real good pit ches and could mean trouble for opponents as the season progresses. Just the opposite of last year, the catching department sems a question. Richard Her tager is expected to draw the starting assignments. Victor Halsey and Don Charley are running close behind him. Two Infield Regulars The Eagles shouldn't have too much trouble in the in field this year, according to Vannice. There are two regu lars and two other lettermen back. Jini Nease will hold down first bitse when not pit ching with Dick Wilson tak ing over there when Nease is on the hill. Duane Anderson is handling second base for the third year and Steve Ger en shortstop for the second aeason. At third base there can be Perdue to handle the chores. A possible outfield is Madi son Patrick in right, Bill Pfeiffer in center, where he Is playing his third season, and Blair, one-year letterman, in left. Nease, Wilson, pfeiffer, An derson and Tony Eastman have paced early hitting. Also hitting the ball well is Don Charlev. a freshman. Perdue and Geren. who rapped the ball well In 1?59 are expected to catch stride soon. Rogue Relays Adds High Hurdle Event A brand new event and a feature attraction will add flavor to the annual Rogue relays. The 21st running of the re lays is set for Saturday at the Medford stadium.
