Hubert Humphrey (D-Minn.). finding more fault with the Quoting record of Sen. John Kennedy (D-Mass.), returned to Milwaukee today for two days of stumping in search of votes ine Wisconsin presi dential primary. Humphrey hinted broadly that Kennedy, his opponent in tMfe Apyl 5 election, would not be able to successfully fight for legislation to close federal tax law loopholes. Hints at Tax Record The Minnesota senator told an audience at Superior, Wis., Tuesday night Jhat the fed eral tax system could be cor rected only "if we have a can didate willing to carry on the fighjt - and one with a person al record to back it up He indicated Kennedy did not have the needed record because he did not vote with Democrats in 1954 to reduce tox relief for upper income brackets, and in 1958 did not support higher tax exemp tions and a cut in the deple tion, allowance on oil reserves o Humphrey said Kennedy did change his stand on the last two issues and did vbte for them in later congression al sessions, but he said both the reduction and the deple tion allowance Kennedy voted for were smaller than those originally proposed. : Humphrey lamented the great expense involved in run ning for public office. In an obvious reference to Kennedy's wealth, Humphrey said politics should not be re stricted to the highest bidder. He said it appeared that poli tics may become a "plaything of the rich." Klamath Slayer Files Petition Portland (UP& A man sen tenced to life for the slaying of a Klamath Falls woman his filed a petition in Federal Court, here for . a writ of ha beas corpus seeking his re lease. William Thomaston, 48, was sentenced in March in 1959 on a second degree murder charge in connection with the rifle slaying of Mrs. Edith At kins. In a 24-page petition he claims his confinement in the state prison is unconstitution al and that he has been denied his rights. Schrufvk Frowns On Armed Guards Portland-(UPD-Mayor Terry Schrunk told a union delega tion Tuesday he believed that arms on , either side in the current newspaper strike would invite violence. The mayor heard a delega tion from the .Inter-Union Newspaper committee which protested a ruling of the city attorney that said, in effect, armed guards on private prop erty were legal. Schrunk said he was op posed to arms for either side and that he probably would vote against a license for the Wallace ; Security Agency when its application comes be fore the city council. . Spokesman for the union group was John Donovan of Los Angeles, who said he rep resents the - International Printing Pressmen's Union but in this case was speak ing for the local committee. Donovan presented a resolu tion from the Central Labor Council requesting the city council to deny a license to the agency. Schrunk said he, believed newspapers should reexamine their position even if they had constitutional rights to hire armed guards. Solomon Fails To Answer Call Knoxville, Tenn. - (I'PD -Judge J. Fred Bibb, ponder ing a complicated legal problem muttered to him self Tuesday: "Call for Sol omon." Bailiff Carl Bell, hearing the judge, stepped out to .the hall calling: "Solomon . . . Solomon . . . Solomon!" "He doesn't answer, your honor," Bell reported. - "Thank you. Mr. Bell." the judge replied. "I guess we're several thousand years too late." Flares Reported In Heppner Area H e p p n e r, Ore. (UPD A search was planned when weather permitted of a hilly area southwest of here after flares were reported seen in the area Monday night. No airplanes were reported missing but Sheriff C. J. Bau man said a search would be made to check oh the flare re ports. Bad weather prevented aerial search Tuesday. Wanted in Coors Case (UPI Telephoto) "Escaped Killer Added To List Wanted by FBI Denver -(UPD The FBI today placed on its 10 most wanted list a fugitive murder who has been linked by cirSumstances with the disappearance of mil lionaire Colorado brewer Adolph Coors III. Joseph Corbett Jr., 31, moved out of his Denver apartment Feb.- 10, the day a3er Coors disappeared while driving from his ranch home to his brewery at Golden, west of Denver. Truck Abandoned Coferr,' truck was .found abandoned on a bridge, and there were bloodstains near ?t on the ground. Coors' spec tacles and cap were f8und on the cKjek bank. The day before Coors disap peared, a yellow car was seen near his home. Corbett drove a yellow 1951 aufb. Corbett's car was found burned ngar Atlantic City, N.J., Feb. 19. No trace of the fugitive has been found since. Considered Dangerous The FBI said Corbet should be considered armed and dangerous. A one-time univer sity student, he was described ss having superior intelli gence but possessed with fan tasies of being all-powerful He went by the name of Wal ter Osborne. Corbet was serving a 10- year sentence in California for the 1950 hitchhike slaying of an Air Force sergeant; He escaped from the minimum security Chino Prison jn 1955. Dog Sympathizer Collared by Police Grand Prairie, Tex. (UPD Coy Hubert Herrin, 24, tried to engineer a mass break from the city dog pound but police put the "collar" on him instead. Police said they caught Herrin prying1 locks off. the pjis Tuesday. Detective KB.
