Woodmen of the World, delivered the check to Mr. Parker and Mr. Knox arranged for the traditional birthday feast of ice cream and cake for the Parkers. When someone remarked that 96 years Is a long time, the honored man replied, "it is quite a spell, at that.'' Guardian Pays Visit To Bethel Central Point - Bethel 38, International Order of Job's Daughters, conducted initia tion for the grand guardian of Oregon, Mrs. Joseph Rogers, Independence, at a recent con vocation. Miss Jeanette Purdy, honor ed queen, presided. Candidates were the Misses Joanne us- wald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Williams, and Elin Livingston, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Lloyd Livingston. Introduced and honored were Mrs. W. K. Suit, Med ford, grand guide of Oregon, Mrs. Charles Meyer, past guardian of Bethel 38, Mrs Charles Turner, guardian and Mrs. Harold Gordon, past guardian of Bethel 55, and Miss Rachel Hamilton, junior past queen. Miss Janet Turner extend ed an invitation from Bethel 55 to attend their birthday night celebration Tuesday March 22. Preceding the meeting Mrs. Rogers was honored with a dinner at the Medford hotel. All line officers, and many other members and their mothers attended. The guardi an, Mrs. A. Purdy, and asso ciate guardian, Paul Hopkins, were in charge. An addendum was given at the close of the meeting in which the honored queen pre sented a "horn of plenty" planter and greenery to the visiting grand guardian and Miss Ellen Ward read a bit of original verse honoring both Mrs. Rogers and St. Patrick's day. The upstairs hall was deco rated with baskets of green and white and shamrocks by Miss Charla Meyer and her mother. The refreshments committee consisted of Vir ginia Wilson, Nancy Clark and Janet Ayres. Their moth ers had decorated the table with a shamrock cloth and a irl Scouts Brownie Troop 179 Brownies of Troop 179 are learning how to make beds correctly, to set the table and make cookies, under the lead ership of Mrs. William Brawn. Members work in small groups at Mrs. Brawn's home in the evening. The group discussed the past year's activities at a re cent meeting. One of the most enjoyable deeds was a friend ship box sent to Rene Bu chino, 9, who was injured in an automobile accident while on her way home from the hospital. She was returned to the hospital and spent several months in a body cast. The troop received a letter from Rene thanking the Brownies for their gifts. Another letter was also one of the highlights of the year. It came from Kathryn Dug dale, lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth. The troop observed its sec ond birthday anniversary at a party February 14. Members of the troop are Brenda Lacy, Irene Arnold, Susan Benge, Donna Shafer, Pat Patterson, Barbara War ren, Patty Sanderson, Peggy Bedell, Nora Lee Risse, Dar lene Osborne, Carolyn Baccus and Donna Jeanne Brawn. The troop decided to save money earned in projects to finance a trip to Disneyland. Swimming Party Held by Students Gold Hill-Students of the eighth grade at Hanby Ele mentary school went to Twin Plunges at Ashland for a swimming party. Parents who accompanied the group were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hixson, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jones, Mrs. Lester Wakeman, H. D. Members Visit Olive Rebekahs Members of the Ladies En campment auxiliary from Myrtle Creek made a visita tion at the last meeting of Olive Rebekah lodge. The lodge approved a rec ommendation that the deco ration of chivalry be present ed to Mrs. Donald M. Ivie dur ing the Rebekah Assembly session at Eugene in May. All past noble grands will be honored at the next meet ing of Olive Rebekah lodge, Monday, March 21, at the Odd Fellows hall. An earring auc tion is also planned. Drill practice will be held after the meeting. The committee in charge of refreshments will be Mrs. Frank Chapman, Mrs. L. F. Cline, Mrs. Esther Colman and Mrs. H. W. Corieer. Mrs. Esther Coleman, noble grand, will preside. ' An inflatable airplane weighs only 565 pounds in cluding container, fuel and parachute. It has a payload of 240 pounds and is intended to be dropped behind enemy lines. President Announces Officers Mrs, O. O. DeBerry, president-elect of the auxiliary to Crater Lake post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, at the last meeting announced her ap pointed officers for the ensu ing year. They include Mrs. Etha Wall, musician; Mrs. Ben Allison, patriotic instruc tor; Mrs. Cora Card, historian; and Mrs. Ivan Lusk, Mrs. Russell Johnson, and Mrs. R. E. Schulz, color bearers. A citation of merit was re ceived by the auxiliary from the staff of Camp White Domiciliary for the work of the women. Mrs. Fred Lawrence, essay chairman, announced that the essays were in the hands of the judges and soon would be ready for the state entry. A report was made on the sale of a linen tablecloth and Mrs. E. G. Heim, sewing chairman, announced that the circle would not meet again until May due to officer in stallation next month. A report was made by Mrs. Schulz, senior citizen chair man, on the visit made to Mitchell's Sanitarium in Jack sonville. The auxiliary made a do nation to the cancer fund and went on record to help the Ko rean fund that is sponsored by the National Auxiliary, VFW. A rummage sale is planned by the group March 25 and 26. Members will put the ar ticles in order Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mrs. Russell Zundel," dis trict 7 president, will be in stalling officer. Mrs. Allison was appointed to the gift com mittee and Mrs. B. B. Ramsey will be refreshment chairman for the installation of officers. The district convention will be held May 15 at the VFW hall in Rogue River. At the sewing club meeting held at the home of Mrs. Mary Weber, prizes were won by Mrs. Zundel and Mrs. Johnny Weber. Secret pal names were drawn. The next auxiliary meeting will be held Tuesday, April 5. A supersensitive profession al movie film has been intro duced that makes it possible to cut studio lighting in half or to use smaller lens open ings with consequent increase of sharpness. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Brenneman, 1110 West Eighth street, are shown at the entrance of the Ambassador hotel in Los Angeles where they were registered during a xecent trip south. The Brennamans also spent some lime in Palm Springs before returning to Medford. President Names New Committees Mrs. Riley Appelgate, pres ident of the Past Noble Grands club of Olive Rebekah lodge, appointed standing committees for the year at the March meeting of the club at Girls Community club. On the ways and means committee are Mrs. J. D. Drummond, chairman, and Mrs. Dolly Love, Mrs. Wil liam Dyer and Mrs. Clarence Jorden, members; question box, Mrs. Clarence Jorden; and cards, flowers and publi city, Mrs. Frank Chapman. The past presidents were honored at a special program with a mock jury trial.. Each was presented a small sack of gladiola bulbs. Attending were Mrs. Homer Vinzant, Mrs. Dolly Love, Mrs. Carl Pearson, Mrs. Carrie Milnes, Mrs. Orpha Wendel, Mrs. Rosa Young, Mrs. Clara Franklin and Miss Bessie Fredenburg. Mrs. Don Ivie was chair man. The c 1 u b's next meeting will be April 14 at Girls Com munity club with Mrs. Irene Shirley, Mrs. Virgie Garner and Mrs. Buford Kight on the luncheon committee. Mrs. Session Set By Council Rogue Valley Girl Scout council will hold its annual spring meeting at Westmin ster Presbyterian church, Medford, Wednesday, March 23, at 10 a.m. Mrs. Richard A. Gray, coun cil president, will conduct the business meeting. Luncheon will be served at 12 noon by W e s t m i n ster Presbyterian Women, under the direction of Mrs. Garner Haupert. The Rev. John O. Reynolds, pastor of Westminster church, will give the invocation. Dr. Leonard Mayfield will be the luncheon speaker, dis cussing the youth of Russia, A new Girl Scout movie, "Camp Time, Any Time!" will be shown.
