Students Participate in Physical Education Show Gola Hill-Nearly 160 Han by students of the fourth through eighth grades parti cipated in the annual physical education show held follow ing the Gold Hill Parent Teacher association's meeting in the Hanby school's gym nasium, Thursday evening. A capacity crowd of par ents and friends attended the event. Gilbert A. Mack, prin cipal of Gold Hill schools, was master of ceremonies. General chairman for the occasion was Mrs. Shirley An derson, seventh and eighth grade girls' physical educa tion coach. Other teachers as sisting her during the one hour show are Mrs. Ida von Buskirk, Mrs. Mildred Black, Leon Myers, Lynn Berntson, Allen Hill, and Walter Doh erty. The program commenced with all students in a grand march. The bugle call was given by Billy Jones and col ors were presented by Ronald Brown, Dave Force, Greg Applen and Greg Schmidt, all were in Scout uniform. National Anthem The audience and students participated in the flag salute and national anthem, which preceded the school yell and song led by Toni Morrow, yell queen, and leaders, Judy Post, Pam Freeman, and Linda Walker. A marching drill demon stration was given by the fifth grade girls' drill team. The group recently performed at; the Butte Falls school. The tumbling and stunts ex hibition, staged by the sixth grade girls, was introduced by Linda Parker and Shirley Kell who presented a large poster on which was written the various ways that the group's activities are impor tant for relaxation, coordina tion, correct posture and phy sical powers. - - Basketball leadup skills demonstrated by fifth grade boys were explained by Bandy Turner. Mike Turner introduced skill activities that were giv en by sixth grade boys. Betty Brown and Charlotte Volmert carried a poster that told of activities in which seventh and eighth grade girls participate. Seventh grade boys warm up activities were explained by Ron Rader, Gary Gidney, Kerby Koopman, and Donald Gail. Tommy Abbott, assisted the teacher with the boys. Among highlights of the evening's performances was a chariot race relay with eight grade boys participat ing, and rope climbing. Self testing activities staged by the students were introduced by Robert Governor. The physical education show concluded with the retiring of colors by Jackie Fisher, Mike Turner, Paul Thomp son, and Cecil Cardwell. Noble Shearer, Cor nelius, Ore., grand chief of Oregon Pythian Sisters, and Mr. Shearer will arrive in Medford, Tuesday, March 22. Mrs. Shearer will be honor ed at a meeting of the Past Chief club that evening at the home of Mrs. Harry Bryant, past grand chief, 1312 Reddy avenue, with Mrs. W. L. Wal den, president of the club, and Mrs. Don Ross, co-host esses. Mrs. Edward Bostwick, most excellent chief of Talis man temple, and her officers will be guests. Wednesday at 8 pjn. Mrs. Shearer will make her offi cial visit to the Talisman Tem ple. Officers and Degree staff will put . on the initiation work. Mrs. .Lillian Walter, Ashland, is the candidate. Mrs. Shearer was elected grand guard of the Grand Temple of Oregon in 1954 and in October, 1959, she-was installed grand chief at the grand session in'Roseburg. A banquet will be held Wednesday at Kim's on the North Pacific highway in hon or of the Shearers. The mem bers will meet at the Knights of Pythias hall, North Grape street, at 5:45 p.m. and from there will go to Kim's. Refreshment committee for the meeting will be Mrs. George Bryant, chairman, Mrs. Walden, Mrs. Amy Sny der, Edward Bostwick, and Mrs. John Scott Hall. The grand chief of Pythian Sisters in Oregon, Mrs. R. Noble Shearer of Cornelius, will arrive in Medford Tues day lo visit members of Talis man temple here. Medford Duplicate Club Opens Bridqe Tournament Twenty tables of players took part in the first session of the open pairs club cham pionship tournament of Med ford Duplicate Bridge club March 15. The second session will be played Tuesday night, March 22, and will decide the over all winners. The March master point play of the Medford unit of the American Contract Bridge league was set for Saturday night at Girls Community club. Members Announced Mrs. William Cox and Mrs. Richard Meister became new members of Alpha Lambda chapter of Epsilon Sigma Al pha sorority Monday evening at a meeting held at Kim's restaurant. Mrs. B. H. Gilbert, presi dent, and Mrs. Robert Klumph, vice-president, con ducted the jewel pin cere mony. Mrs. William- Riggert and Mrs. Robert Shangle were candlelighters. Corsages were presented to the new ' members by the chapter. Mrs. James Hagerty, a for mer member of Alpha Lamb da chapter in Great Falls, Mont., was a guest. Miss Jantzer was graduated from Prospect High school in 1958. .Their wedding is planned for June. Medford Couple To Leave City; Parties Given Dr. and Mrs. S. D. Earhart, 11 North Peach street, will leave Medford Monday for Vancouver, Wash., where Dr. Earhart has been transferred by the Veterans Administra tion. - The couple moved to Med ford in 1949 from Klamath Falls where Dr. Earhart had been in private practice. During the last several weeks the couple has been honored at a number of social events. Thursday Mrs. Earhart was entertained by women of Eastwood Baptist church at the home of Mrs. John Yung en, Hanley road. March 12 she was honored at an event at the home of Mrs. W. C. Mc Cuiston, 923 West Main street, and March 5 Mrs. Fred Strang entertained in her honor at the Strang home, 540 Penn sylvania avenue. Medical personnel at Camp White honored the couple at two events. Thursday after noon a party was held and Friday evening they attended a dinner. Mrs. Earhart has been ac tive in Eastwood Baptist church, in Medford Council of Church Women and a number of other organizations. Mrs. Ralph Jones Is Party Hostess Talent- Mrs. Ralph Jones, 3995 Pacific Highway south, was hostess for a St. Patrick's day luncheon at her home. Decorations were in the tra ditional Irish motif. .
