(Ears) Whitworth, one of football's greatest line coach es, died of a broken heart. A heart attack apparently killed Whitworth some time last week but his body wasn't discovered until Monday by a neighbor. Whitworth's wife was visiting relatives in New York and his son was at school at the University of Alabama. He had "come home" to the University of Georgia as line coach just a year ago after a heart-breaking series of re verses as head c-ach at Okla homa A & M and the Univer sity of Alabama. He called this past year the happiest of his career. Whitworth, a native of Blytheville, Ark., was a hard rocking guard at the Univer sity of Alabama in his playing days and kicked a field goal against Washington State in the 1931 Rose Bowl game. Baptist, Christian In Playoff Finale First Baptist and First Christian will play off at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at McLoughlin gym for the men's church bas ketball league championship. Baptist defeated Presbyter ian No. 1 by 46 to 34 in a playoff game Monday and Christian won by default over Presbyterian No. 2. Dick Niles had 22 points for Presby No. 1 and Gordon Gilmore 11 for the Baptists. Zion Lutheran bolstered its third place status in the senior church league with a 63 to 28 win over YMCA as Bud Quin ney got 19 points. Sacred Heart Catholic won its first loop fray by a 43 to 42 nod over First Christian. Second place First Methodist took a forfeit win over St. Luke's Methodist. 1 UO Ducks Go Against NM State United Press International Oregori and New Mexico State meet tonight to decide the fourth and final partici pant in the Western regional division of the NCAA basket ball tournament. The third berth "was settled Tuesday night as California's classy Golden Bears blitzed Idaho State, 71-44, in a stun ning display of court wiz ardry. The other sports for the Seattle joust were settled Monday night. Santa Clara edged Loyola, 59-53, in a game between the co-champions of the West Coast Ath letic conference and Skyline champion 1 Utah thrashed Southern California 80-73, at Provo, Utah. Cal Versus Santa Clara California will tangle with Santa Clara in this Friday's opener at Seattle. Utah faces the Oregon-New Mexico State winner in the second contest. The two winners battle Satur day night with the victor rep resenting the Coast at the Na tional NCAA competition, in the San Francisco Cow Pal ace, March 18-19. Ted's Neck Top Secret United Press International The condition of Ted Wil liams' neck has become a top secret item in the Boston Red Sox' training camp. Manager Billy Jurges sup plied the new Williams twist when he placed a taboo on any mention of neck injuries. On ly a week ago the 41-year-old slugger had said the painful .ailment could force him to re tire. ' "Don't even ask Ted how his neck is," Jurges told re porters. "Let's let it go at that." Williams, meanwhile, ap peared improved to newsmen who watched him go through Monday's workouts He no longer carries his neck to one side and he was blast ing away in batting practice with his old zest and lecturing younger players on hitting. Williams is attempting a comeback after his 1959 bat ting average fell to an all-time low of .254. Suspended Tilt Rule Adopted Orlando, Fla.
