The hotel and the Dale Sims men's store were be lieved to be total losses. Other nearby businesses suffered smoke and water damage. Damage Believed Heavy The fire, which broke out shortly before 4 a.m., was brought under control at 6:35 a.m. Damage was expected to be heavy. The hotel building was insured for at least $100,000, according to an insurance rep resentative, and loss to equip ment and furniture in the building was estimated at $20,000. Cause of the blaze was not Immediately determined. Fire men said it may have broken out in the men's store. Occupants Awakened wmard ti. walls, proprie tor of the hotel, ran from room to room awakening oc cupants and then down the fire escape in his bare feet to direct police and firemen. The alarm was turned in by Har old Jennings, 35, Portland, who was in a fourth -floor room when awakened by smoke. Two occupants of the hotel were overcome by smoke and taken to the hospital here for treatment. Described in good condition were William Frow, 84, Eugene, and William Win kleman, believed to be from Myrtle Point. Kelly Mon day to three years in the Ore gon State penitentiary for ut tering and publishing a false check.. She had pleaded guilty to issuing a false check for S40 on Nov. 10, to the Big Y mar ket in Medford. Circuit Judge James M. Main Tuesday ordered a pre sentence investigation for Larry Howard Kell, who pleaded guilty to charges of forgery. Kell is charged with forging a $500 bail bond on Dec. 18 by signing the names of Leonard and Alice Kell. Portland Building Damaged by Flames - Fortland-(l'PD-A three-alarm fire caused an estimated $250,000 damage to a three story frame building housing the Totem Pole Marine in north Portland Tuesday night. - Eighteen pieces of equip ment answered the blaze. The building housed many boats, although some were pulled to safety. Firemen battled the blaze more than three hours. - Cause of the fire was not immediately determined. Sentence Imposition Suspended by Court . Imposition of sentence was suspended for Ernest Otto Zeisler, 37, of 2488 Jackson ville highway, in district court this week for petty lar ceny. Zeisler was charged with taking a 16 volt battery from a cabin and tool shed on For est Creek, state police said.
