Mrs. Gilbert is chapter president, and at one time was president of Alpha Iota chap ter. Grants Pass. (Knackstedt photo) Sorority Honors Member Mrs. B. H. Gilbert was named the outstanding mem ber of the Medford chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha soror ity at a meeting Monday eve ning. Mrs. Gilbert, president of the chapter, was chosen the basis of her work and pro motion of the sorority and its purpose. Previously she was president of Alpha Iota chap ter in Grants Pass and is now a member of the district coun cil of southern Oregon She will compete with out standing women from other state chapters at the state con vention to be held in April in Eugene. Mrs. Robert Shangle and Mrs. Leland Carpenter were also named in the local contest. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Howard Phillips and was followed by an educational program. Tak ing part were Mrs. Peter Greene, Mrs. Richard Harri son and Mrs. Richard Meister. The three spoke on the varied phases of life in the Scandi navian countries, emphasizing Finland. Particularly mentioned were the high rate of literacy with 99 per cent of the people able to read and write, and provision of old age pensions, education and low cost hous ing 4n Sweden. Each speaker was dressed in a native costume and trays of food representative of the countries were passed by the hostesses Displayed were articles of handiwork. Mrs. Jack Maason was a guest. Twenty-eight members and guests attended the recent "beatnik party" held at the home of Mrs. Wylie Macpher son, 441 Highland drive. Mrs. Davis Young and B. H Gilbert were chosen king and queen of the beatniks. Other prizes in games were won by Mrs. Macpherson, Mrs. Robert Roe, Peter Greene and Tom Williams. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Homer Browner, Grants Pass; Mr. and Mrs. James Ris- to, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wil liams and Will Dodd. Installation Held For Relief Corps Central Point - Officers of the Central Point Women's Belief corps, William H. Har rison post, were installed at a meeting at the home of Mrs W. A. McDowell. Mrs. Maggie Beihn it the new president: Mrs. Bessie Henderson, senior vice-president; Mrs. Emma Pence, jun ior vice-president; Mrs. John Novak, chaplain; Mrs. O. T Wilson, secretary. Mrs. Al Hermanson, treas urer; Mrs. John Foster, con ductor; Mrs. Phil Griggs, as sistant conductor; Mrs. Sally Musty, guard; Mrs. Frank Smith, assistant guard; Mrs. . V -. . . f Elizabeth Faber, musician; Mrs. Eva Smith, Mrs. George Durate, Mrs. L. D. Hays and Mrs. McDowell, color bearers. The corps met February 22 for a potluck dinner at the home of Mrs. Wilson. Mem bers agreed to furnish rug material for men at the Camp White domiciliary who use the material for weaving. Mrs. Beihn invited the corps to her home at Rogue River for the March 15 meeting. Lodge Initiates Three Women Mrs. Thomas Cox, Mrs Roma Rice and Mrs. Cecil Em ery were initiated into the Defending circle of the Wo men of the Moose at a recent meeting. Present at the event was Mrs. Dovey Reeder, Merrill, associate graduate regent, who instituted the local lodge in 1946. She was escorted to the altar and presented a corsage of roses. Plans were made for spaghetti dinner and several money raising projects. Mem bers were asked to take dish towels for kitchen use. ' Also discussed were plans to send Mrs. Clara Eldridge, past graduate regent, to Moosehart. Mrs. Billy Dean, member of the hospital committee, was in charge of the program. Billy Wayne Dean sang sev eral selections and was ac companied on the guitar by Larry Dean. New Director for Youth Fellowship Gold Hill-Mrs. George T. Allen is leader of the Senior Methodist Youth Fellowship of Gold Hill Community Methodist church. All eighth grade and high school students are invited to participate in the group's ac tivities whether or not they are a member of the church. Meetings are held each Sun day at 6:30 p.m. at the church, consisting of a devotional les son, business session and en tertainment. Such games as table tennis, chess and checkers will be played, and refreshments served during the social hour, Mrs. Allen said. Bill Stanton is president. Family Chosen For Test Group Talent-Mrs. W. R. Bagley, route 1, box 246, Talent, has been selected by the Farm Journal magazine as a mem ber of the national family test group. The Bagley family will be one of 500 member families in the group. They will test new products both on the farm and in the home to help the magazine editors plan articles for its readers. Pauline Denyer gets some assistance above Minister Interprets yThe Psalms' Dr. Donald Grey Barn- house, minister of the Tenth Presbyterian church, Phila delphia, Pa., spoke to the Women's association of the Westminster Presby t e r i a n church and their guests at a luncheon meeting on Tuesday, February 23. "The Psalms" was the subject of his speech. Dr. Barnhouse, recited many of the 150 psalms he had memorized, interpreted those he recited. Using Psalm 84 as an example, he called attention to the fact that this psalm was written "for the Sons of Koran" what he called the "janitors" or "care takers" of the Tabernacles. cEDcFEcsiriuv padred: t&c cOiete cvit&ifo omt coat complete ! l A ensemble complete 1 M '2995" He noted particularly the third verse of this psalm where it tells that the spar row and the swallow had built their nests in the vicinity of the altar. "These are things that care takers would naturally notice as they went about their work," Dr. Barnhouse said, "and how they loved their work! The sparrow is the symbol of worthlessness and the swallow, the symbol of restlessness. The swallow is the American bird most on the wing," he added. Association Theme The book of the Psalms is the theme of the Women's as sociation circle study program for the year. A business meeting was held following Dr. Barn houses' speech. The four cir cle groups of the church have been named for women of the Bible by a committee select ed for this purpose. Morning circle A will be known as Elizabeth circle; morning circle B, Martha circle; afternoon circle, Ruth circle; and the evening circle, Esther circle. The luncheon was prepared by Martha circle and was served buffet style. Richarcl Lichti Installed De Molay Master Councilor Central Point - Richard Lichti was installed as mas ter councilor of Crater chap ter, Order of De Molay in ceremonies conducted recent ly by Malta commandery, Knights Templar, in the Ma sonic temple of Central Point. Other officers installed during the February 15 event were Jim Ackerman, senior councilor; Bruce Burns, jun ior councilor; John Rogers, senior deacon; Daniel Hays, junior steward; Leslie Goff, senior steward; Jerry Lewis, Honored Gold Hill-Mrs. Cermal Cook, Blackwell Hill road was honored at a shower giv en at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Joe Robertson on Foley lane last Tuesday after noon. Shipwreck Party Planned by Group "Voice and Vocabulary" was the title of a program presented by Mrs. Clinton Neeley at a meeting of Alpha Beta chapter, Beta Sigma Phi, Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Dale Curfman, 372 Garfield drive. Saturday," March 5, the chapter's pledges will enter tain their sorority sisters and husbands at a Shipwreck par ty to be held at Thurston Dance Studio, 245 Stewart av enue. Mrs. Robert Stuart is in charge of the event. Mrs. Thomas Cardona and Mrs. O. A. Eden, the director and sponsor for Alpha Beta chapter, were guests at the meeting. Mrs. Richard Wager and Mrs. John Watkins as sisted the hostess. At a previous meeting held at the home of Mrs. Tom Shoop, 130 White Oak drive, Mrs. Lowell Fleser presented a program titled "Conversa tion." Mrs. Gene Parker, a Beta Sigma Phi transfer from Roseburg, was a guest. Mrs. George Polski, Mrs. Richard Wagner and Mrs. Harold Ames were appointed to the nominating committee. The next meeting will be held in the home of Mrs. Floyd Eastwood, 940 Shafer lane. Introduced were Leslie Goff, past master councilor of Crater chapter, John Hod son, past master councilor of the Grants Pass De Molay chapter and governor of dis trict 9. De Molay advisors present were Russell Fair, Ralph John son and Archie Purdy. Members representing oth er Masonic organizations pres ent were Robert Padgett, wor shipful master of the Central Point Masonic lodge; Furman Evernham, eminent command er of Malta commandery 4, Mrs. Jack Ward, worthy ma tron of Nevita chapter, Order of Eastern Star; Miss Jean nette Purdy, queen of Bethel 38, International Order of Job's Daughters; Miss Su zanne Rogers, queen of Bethel 56; Miss Barbara Gordon, past queen of Bethel 55 and Miss Judy Taylor, past queen of Bethel 56. In closing the Rev. Robert Bridge, minister of the Cen Iris Society Elects Officers Mrs. E. A. Harris, Ashland, was elected president of the Southern Oregon Iris society at a meeting February 23 at the home of Mrs. John W. McCormick, Grants Pass. Others elected were Mrs. Kenneth Farley, vice-president; Mrs. O. V. Poe, secretary-treasurer; Mrs. John W. McCormick and Mrs. Charles C. Champion, program chair men, and Mrs. H. J. Stout, Central Point and Mrs. L. R. McKee, Jacksonville, public ity chairmen. A round table discussion on iris was held. The next meeting of the group will be held at the home of Mrs. O. V.
