Miss Judith Singler (Landis photo) Summer Rites Planned by Pair Raymond Singler, 531 South ivy street, announces the engagement of his daugh ter, Judith Regina, to Paul James Stewart, son of Mr, and Mrs. Ted v Stewart, 18 Jeannette street. Miss Singler was graduated from Saint Mary's High school In 1959 and is employed by City Sanitary Service com- - pany. Mr. Stewart attended Phoe nix High school and is em ployed by Myra Vista. An early summer wedding Is planned. Landscape Expert Talks for Group Dale Coverstone, landscape architect with - Berrydale Flower farm,, was speaker for the last meeting of Grove Garden club. Mr. Coverstone stressed simplicity, saying plantings should enhance a house with out hiding it, and should focus attention on the front door. He advised his listeners to cross the street and look at their house and plantings from the neighbor's view. Mr. Coverstone's talk fol lowed the semi-monthly din ner of the group. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Belknap, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Shores and Mr. and Mrs. George Armstrong were the dinner committee. Pussywillows and jasmine were used for table decora tions. The club has taken a sub scription to the magazine, "Natural History" for Oak Grove school. Engaged to Wed Mr. and Mrs. Thayer Kessler, Anchorage, Alaska, announced the engagement of their daughter, Sara Maria, 2570 Victory lane, Medford, to Henry Carlton Vessell, for merly of Ruch. Miss Kessler, was graduat ed from Medford High school in 1959 and until recently has been attending Sacred Heart School of Nursing, Eu gene. Mr. Vessell, son of Mrs. V. Vessell, Route 1, box 60A, Jacksonville, and the late Mr, Vessell, attended school in Ruch and was graduated from Jacksonville High school in 1959. He is employed by the Earl Olson Oyster company in Bay City, Ore., where he is mak ing his home. An April wedding in King dom hall of Jehovah's Wit nesses is planned. Also admitted at the same time was Miss Grace Gail, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C Norman Gail, Gold Hill. Edward Root, retired public school music instruc tor, will teach the class, re quested by those who attend classes at the center. Mr. Root instructs and con ducts the orchestra which meets Thursday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m. at the center, The orchestra was formed last spring from beginners and former musicians. Mr. Root plans to train new class mem bers until they are proficient enough to play with the or chestra. rne class is open to any men or women who would like to learn how to play an instrument, or regain his skills on an instrument he formerly played, it is said, The class will last one hour weekly and members are in vited to bring a snack lunch and stay to enjoy the colored slides which are shown each Monday at 1 p.m. of foreign travel, for the Arm Chair Travel group. Robert Heffernan will show slides of his travel in Spain and Portugal to the group Monday. The slides shown by Mr. Heffernan which he had taken in the Near East proved very popular and viewers are advised to come early, it is stated. This series is arranged by Dr. Frank Roberts. The Spanish class which meets each Thursday at 10. a.m. has doubled its size in the last two weeks, and will welcome newcomers. Griffin Creek PTA Changes Meeting A meeting of Griffin Creek Parent - Teacher association originally planned for March 3 will be held March 10 in stead, it was announced last week." The Griffin Creek meeting was changed in order to al low parents to attend a special meeting at McLoughlin Par ent - Teacher association for parents of children who will be in the seventh grade at McLoughlin school next year. Bethels 14 and 55, International Order of Job's Daughters, honored their queens at a formal dinner and dance held Saturday, February 20, at Rogue Valley Country club. Extension Units Announce Variety of Program Topics March is the second "free choice" month of the year for Jackson County Home Exten sion units. No lessons are given by county agents and each unit will prepare and give a lesson of its choice. Included in the wide range of subject matter will be cake decorating, glove making, films on cancer control, and a talk on tax problems. Many of these meetings will be of county-wide interest and-will be open to anyone who wants to attend. All women of the county are invited to attend nome extension units, either in their immediate locality or elsewhere. Wilson Park Wilson Park unit will be shown a film on artificial res piration and have a lesson on DOisons and antidotes at a meeting March 1 at 8 p.m Mrs. Lloyd Turner, 1525 Jasper street, will be hostess, assisted by Mrs. Ronald Hard ing and Mrs. David Shaffer, Agate Members of the Agate umt will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wed nesday, March 2, at the home of Mrs. D. A. Bever, Gebhard road. Mrs. Bever and Mrs. John Small will give a lesson on dried weed arrangements. Members and interested visi tors are advised to wear old clothes and to bring any weeds they would like to in clude in arrangements. Lake Creek Lake Creek unit will have lesson on cake decorating by Mrs. H. R. Corliss when they meet Wednesday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Murray Bartling, Brownsboro. Mrs. Corliss, a guest of the unit, gave a similar lesson last year which proved so popular that she was invited to give, the lesson to the the women again this year. Those attending are re minded to bring their own table service. Applegale Valley A study of India, with a native-style meal, is planned by the Applegate Valley unit, which will meet Wednesday, March 2, at the Grange hall. Mrs. Wilfred Pearson, chair man for the Associated Coun try Women of the World, will be in charge of the study and report on India will be given by Mrs. Lora Scott.1 Colored slides of India will be shown. Mrs. Harley Hall Is direct ing preparation of food. Members are to bring ar ticles for a silent auction for benefit of the 4-H scholarship fund. They are also to bring table service and a pillow and blanket for sitting on the floor during the program. Griffin Creek A lesson on glove making will be given by Mrs. Harold Kenyon at a meeting of Grif fin Creek unit Friday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at Griffin Creek Grange hall. Mrs. Kenyon also will con duct the business meeting in tiie absence of the chairman, Mrs. Paul Doe. A covered - dish luncheon will be served at noon by Mrs. Noel Erskine and Mrs. Randall Leon. Those attending are re quested to bring scissors, pins and thimbles. Members of the unit are to bring rummage to the Fehl building the evening of March 4 or to the March 4 meeting in preparation for the rummage sale March 5. Butte Falls Butte Falls unit will meet Tuesday, March 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Harry Dalton for a lesson on hair styling. It will be presented by Mrs. Maxine Hammond of Rolland's Beauty salon in Medford. Luncheon will be served, and those attendmg are to take table service. Any inter ested woman is invited to attend. Special Events On Agenda For McLoughlin PTA A number of special events are planned for a meeting of the McLoughlin Junior High school Parent-Teacher associa tion Thusrday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the boys gym nasium. Parents of sixth and ninth grade students who will be entering junior and senior high school next year will be given an opportunity to meet with advisors of the schools to help with schedules for the students next year. Election of PTA officers for next year will be held. Mrs. Paul Fulmer will give the nominating committee report and nominations also will be taken from the floor. Mrs. Bill Rambo, chairman of the rummage sale commit tee, will report. Dr. Leonard Mayfield, su perintendent of Medford Pub lic Schools, appearing in a Russian fur hat, spoke to the association at the February meeting.
