E, Stephens and Arnold Isaac son, of the University of Utah, described a case of a family in which, in three genera tions, there were 17 persons who had many round lumps under their skin. These lumps consist of fat, and hence are called lipomas. Many people have only one or two, while some people have two or three dozen scattered all over their body. Only rarely will one grow large enough so that it is a nuisance and has to be removed. Many of these little fatty tumors are about as big as a good-sized after-dinner mint, while some are as large as half a hen's egg. One good thing about these little lumps is that they do not turn into anything and, hence, a person doesn't have to worry about cancer growing in them. Will Diabetes Cause Neuritis? Persons can call or visit the local office and rep resentatives will give infor mation about the program's effect, and answer questions. Most people have definite plans when they buy insur ance, either In the line of retirement income or to pro vide for their survivors, Jacobson noted. The same thought should apply to so cial security benefits. Atten tion should be given particu larly, to the benefits payable under the Social Security Act, as practically all wage earn ers and self-employed indi viduals have at least partial protection, he said. No one will say that social security by itself will provide completely for retirement or care for the family in the event of death or disability. It is, and was meant to be, a base on which to build for those events, Jacobson said. Part of Earnings Since social security will replace only part of the earn ings the family will lose be cause of retirement, disability or death, a person will feel safer when he knows the kind and amount of protection it will give, Jacobson added. In addition to knowing who can receive benefits, it is im portant to know how much will be paid. These figures will vary with each individu al, depending on earnings, he said. If the person has a good record of past earnings, he va rrnlw SP 3.747T may receive an accurate esti mate of the potential benefit. With this information, the individual can plan more real istically for the years ahead and take whatever action nec essary to best guarantee that the family is covered against loss of income, Jacobson not ed. If no complete personal record of earnings is avail able, a post card form from the social security office which, when sent to Social Security headquarters,- will provide a statement of total earnings credited to the account.
