Winners will Tie on Thursday in the action to determine the county representatire in the District 5 runoff. If the Tic tor in that Thursday fray is not St. Mary's, another game will be required on Saturday. Wednesday los ers play a prelim on Thurs day night. St. Mary's of Medford fin ished regular Jackson County B league play undefeated when they downed the Talent Bulldogs 51 to 42 on the Tal ent basketball court Friday. Quarter scores were 14 to 12, 31 to 21, and 44 to 25, in favor of the Crusaders. First period action saw Ed Seaver of the Bulldogs get eight of the Bulldog points. Talent led twice and was tied once in the early part of the game with Seavers doing the scoring. Ron Daley led the Crusaders with five. Yates Sparks Al Yates sparked the Cru saders to a 10-point lead at half time with seven points, Seaver led the Bulldogs with five. In the third frame the Crusaders, led by Dick Evans six points, moved to a 19-point lead. . Daley picked up six points. in the last stanza to lead the Crusaders and Seavers drop ped in seven for the Bulldogs Seavers topped all scoring with 21. Ron Daley paced the victors with 15. St. Mary's led in field goals 17 to 15 and in foul shots 18 to 12. Butte Falls - Cliff Chap man shoved in a jump shot for the only points m the overtime Friday night for a Johnson Heads Sport Car Club Dr. Earl T. Johnson was in stalled as president of Siski you Sports Car club at the Friday, Feb. 12 meeting. Other officers are Don Squire, activities chairman, and Mrs. Dean Spears, secretary-treasurer. Johnson suc ceeds Gary Blew. ' The club is considering re vamping its program and a variety of activities are plan ned by Squire. Persons inter ested in sports cars are in vited to the club's activities. Members said that ownership of a sports car is not neces sarily required. It was a final game of the regular Jackson County B league slate. Butte Falls closed up a 32 to 37 deficit in the fourth stanza and turned it into a bit of a see-saw affair. A zone defense helped the Loggers and regular playing time end ed 43-all. Prospect was on top 13 to 10 at the quarter and 25 to 21 at the half. Dan Remsen and Raymond Abbott each had 18 markers for BF while Craig Gardner led the Cou gars with 13. Jackson county is to have two entries in the Klamath meet Choice is among Hawk inson Tire Tread, Southern Oregon college junior varsity, and Andy's Jewelers. Which ever two of the teams, Hawk inson's or the collegians, takes the Southern Oregon Inde pendent league title will have one berth. The other will play the Jewelers for second spot. Hawkinson Tire Tread of Medford is expected to take the SOIBL title. It has a 9-1 record in the loop with two games yet to play. Southern Oregon college junior varsity with its circuit play finished I at 10-2 is still in title running. Andy's is considered because that group of players, under a different sponsor, took the county AAU laurels last year. Hawkinson's has a Tuesday evening date with National Guard at McLoughlin gym and a postponed game to make up with Glendale. Another game on the slate next week will have Big Y Markets and the Jewelers playing here on Wednesday night. National Guard has games to make up with Butte Falls and Glendale. Phoenix 4 2 .667 Eagle Point 4 2 .667 Glendale 4 3 .667 Illinois Valley 4 3 .429 Rogue River 0 7 .000 A three-way tie for first place was established in the Rogue league again Friday night when Ulionis Valley Oregon Ace Upset in NYAC Mile New York-UPl)-Little Jim Beatty, former North Caro lina star now representing the Santa Clara Youth center, up set Oregon ace Dyrol Burleson at the New York Athletic club track and field meet Saturday night and set a new meet record of 4:05.4 in the Baxter mile. Burleson jumped into a lead with a lap to go but Beatty rallied, drew even in the home stretch and won by an eye lash with a lunge at the tape. Ed Moran of the New York A.C. was the distant third. Hayes Jones, America's premier hurdler, scored an unprecedented sprint-hurdles "double for the second straight night when he won both events Saturday night. The two victories by the Eastern Michigan university bullet duplicated his sweep in the same events in Friday night's Philadelphia Inquirer meet. In turning the "iron man' feat, Jones was forced to run a total of six races tonight in heats, semi-finals and finals, making a total of 10 races in the last two evenings here and Philadelphia. He finished first in every heat, semi-final and final. Villanova's crack foursome set a meet mark in the one mile relay when it defeated Morgan State in a match race in 3:17.0. The time cracked the old meet mark of 3:17.9 held by the New York Pio neer club and was only one second slower than the fast est time ever posted by a col lege relay indoors. Medford dumped Phoenix High and Glendale's bask etballers fought by Rogue River 64 to 58. - Outcomes deadlocked Phoe nix, Glendale and Eagle Point. Illinois Valley is just a game behind those three. Phoenix hustled to a 15 to 7 quarter lead against IV at Cave Junction but managed no field baskets in the second period. Illinois Valley picked up in pace and went in front 21 to 18 by halftime. Free heaves by Jerry Buckhaults for 19 to 17 put the Cougars on top to stay. IV worked to six point leads in the third stanza but Phoenix narrowed the differ ence to two points at 29 to 27. Count at the end of the quar ter was 31 to 27. What had been a defensive game turned offensive in the last panel. The Cougars widened to 46 to 35. The Pirates cut it to 46 to 41 but IV padded the total in the final minute of the tilt. The' Cougars outhit Phoe nix 16 to 12 from the field and 18 to 17 from the gift line. Rogue River made ajbattle of it despite point outputs of 32 by Jim Allen and 22 by Glen Blevins for Glendale. Quarter differences were 19 to 16, 34 to 29 and 47 to 41 for the Glendale club which won out on the strength of its greater height. Jerry Kite had 17 for the RR Chieftains, who are a sophomore and junior crew. Bob Allen duplicated his brother Jim's varsity effort as he scored 32 counters to pace the Glendale junior var sity to a 63 to 45 win. Bud Olympius had 11 for RR. Phoenix won its jayvee mix 35 to 25. In the ninth grade conflict the Hornets led all the way. Quarter scores were 13 to 10, 20 to 19, and 31 to 22 in the 43 to 34 decision. Although moving out to a wide margin in the second half the Hornets were able to produce only two field goals while the Mac Bulldogs hit for seven. However the Hor nets dropped in 19 of 25 foul shot attempts to carry them to their wide margin. 12 Points Each Gibb Mitchell and Darryl Stockton headed the Hornets with 12 points each. Mike Neathamer was leading Bull dog scorer with 10. The Bulldogs led in field goals 14 to 10, however the Hornets made 23 of 36 from the foul line while the Bull dogs picked up six of 11. A hot shooting Bulldog team rolled over the Hornet eight graders 41 to 22. Don Kengla led the winners with 12 points while Steve Root picked up five for the Hornets. Hedrick chalked up its first basketball win in three years over McLoughlin in the sev enth grade match. Score was 33 to 27. Larry Stockman had 18 counters for the losers and Jack Mullen 11 for the Hor nets. Tom Culley guided the Hedrick club in the absence of Otis Swisher, r e e u 1 a r coach. Big Smash-Up In Car Race Daytona Beach, Fla. - (OPD -A 35-car smashup injured five drivers and delayed the start of the 250-mile race for modi fied and sportsman cars at Daytona International Speed way Saturday.
