Y. She says that her little girl started auditory training at 10 months. At 18 months she wore one hearing aid, dr. alvakez ana at it months she wore two hearing aids, one in each ear. As the mother says, experts say that the earlier a child is trained to hear or helped to hear, the better. The child then is more likely to learn to sqeak well. This stands to reason, because unless a child can hear what is said, he or she cannot very well learn to speak normally. On the West Coast there is the John Tracy School for the Deaf (806 West Adams blvd., Los Angeles, Calif.) They have a correspondence course for mothers vho very much want to help their deaf child, but who live far away from a school. New Antibiotics At a recent symposium on antibiotics, held in Washing ton, D.C., a number of very promising new drugs were de scribed. For instance; there is now a synthetic penicillin that can be taken by mouth, which works well, and will kill some of the germs which, of late have been giving much trouble to doctors and pa tients. A new antibiotic has been found to be a better wea pon against pneumonia, in fections of the urinary tract, infectious skin diseases, and dysentery due to germs. An other new anibiotic appears to be a good treatment for the acute diarrheas of infancy, and, another is proving very effective in cases of gonor rhea. Park Use Sets Record in State Salem - A record 517,061 campers used Oregon state park overnight facilities dur ing 1959, according to C. H. Armstrong, state parks super intendent. "Existing facilities are be ing enlarged where needed to take care of the 1960 season", he pointed out. Wallowa Lake Park in northeastern Oregon, one of the state's most heav ily used areas, will have 33 new camp sites this year; De troit Lake Park on highway Oregon 22 between Salem and Bend will have 30 additional sites; and, Harris Beach near Brookings in southwest Ore gon will feature an additional 41 camp sites. Members decided to give a model meeting for their par ents this year.
