ings at the Free Methodist

Medford. Dr. Kline will
preach his first in the series
Sunday at the 11 a.m. service.
Dr. Kline is a man of a var
ied background, having
served as pastor, superinten
dent and educator for many
years.
Evening services will be
held at 7:30 o'clock Sunday
and will continue through
Sunday, Feb. 28. No Saturday
evening services will be held.

"Alabaster Box
ft
Observance Sel
Twice each year the Church
of the Nazarene, world-wide,
observes what they call "Ala
baster Box" Sunday. This per
tains to a world-wide mis
sionary fund that is raised by
the sacrificial offerings of the
people throughout the year in
little boxes described as "Ala
baster Boxes." The theme is
taken from the story of Mary
who broke her "Alabaster
Box" of precious ointment on
the feet of Jesus, and Christ
indicated this would forever
after be told as a memorial
for her.
In Sunday's 11 a.m. wor
ship service the breaking of
the "Alabaster Boxes" will
take place, as the people take
their funds for missions to be
placed in a large replica of the
"Alabaster Box."
The funds are sent from the
Nazarene churches throughout
the world to their headquar
ters in Kansas City and go
directly for use on the foreign
field for the purchase of prop
erty and buildings.
. The local Church of the
Nazarene, 520 North Holly st.,
will devote the entire Sunday
morning service to this em
phasis. The Rev. Harold M.
Sanner, will bring the mes
sage titled, "Sent of Christ -Our
Basis for Christian Serv
ice." In the service which be
gins at 7 p.m. the pastor will
preach on "A Place to Hide."

the First Christian church.

Religious Discussion Clubs
The spring session of re
ligious discusson clubs is be
ginning this week in Sacred
Heart parish and throughout
the archdiocese of Portland.
The announcement was
made by Arthur Becker, chair
man of discussion clubs for
the local unit of the Confra
ternity of Christian Doctrine,
which sponsors the project.
Groups of adults who par
ticipated in the fall session
and used the text by the Rev.
Leo J. Trese, "God Gives His
Help," will continue the dis
cussion of the second unit of
the same text, Becker said.
Topics which will be con
sidered during the eight meet
ings of the sesson include "Ex
treme Unction," "When :to
Call a Priest," "The Sacra
mentals," "The What and
Why of Prayer," "Prayer
That Reaches God," "For
Whom Shall I Pray." "The
Best Prayer" and "Do You
Read the Bible?"
Members' Homes
The adult discussion groups
usually meet in the members'
homes once weekly for an
eight-week period. Discussion
is limited to one hour and
may be followed by a social
hour if desired, according to
the chairman. Bab y-sitting
servce can be provided for
those needing it.
All adults of the parish are
invited to take part- in the
program, Becker said, and
their non-Catholic friends and
relatives are welcome to join,
also.

Methodist Pastor
To Leave Tuesday
On Alaskan Tour
Dr. George G. Roseberry,
minister of First Methodist
church, has been selected as
one of 21 Methodist ministers
from 13 states to take part
in a Methodist evangelistic
mission in Alaska Feb. 21
through 28.
Dr. Roseberry will leave
Tuesday for Seattle where
the ministers will attend a
one day briefing session and
then fly to Alaska. During
the week, working with Alas
ka Methodist pastors, they
will preach, train laymen and
do evangelistic visiting in
homes.
Also selected from Oregon
to make the trip is the Rev.
Roy Fredje, minister of the
Rose City Park church, Port
land. During Dr. Roseberry's ab
sence the assistant minister,
the Rev. Robert Dowrey, and
guest speakers will deliver
the sermons. Dr. Roseberry
Birthdays to be
Observed Sunday
In remembrance of the
birthdays of Lincoln and
Washington, Central Church
of Christ will have a patriotic
service Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
The service will feature
slide pictures illustrating the
national hymns, "America"
and "America the Beautiful."
The slides were arranged by
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hover and
include their own photogra
phy. The message by John V.
Heberling, minister, entitled
"Righteousness Exalteth a Na
tion," will include illustra
tions from the lives of Lincoln
and Washington. A group
from the American Legion
and auxiliary will attend the
service.
Mr. Heberling's message for
the 11 a.m. worship hour will
be on "The Greatest Thing in
the World." A quartet compos
ed of Mrs. Elsie Henney, Mr.
and Mrs. David Bigham and
Mr. Heberling will sing
"Kneel at the Cross." The

been studying. These classes
will divide for a shortened
lesson period when their topic

18:22 to 20:12. A young mar
ried couples class will meet
for the first time with the
minister as teacher.
Junior Youth meeting will
convene at 6:30 p.m. with
Mrs. Hallie Saunders. The
Senior group at the same hour
will view and discuss a film
strip with recorded sound en
titled "Conduct On a Date."
Adventisls Plan
Television Day
The television industry, in
the news because, of quiz
show-rigging and payola, will
receive some consideration in
the Seventh - day Adventist
church Saturday.
1 February 13 has been set as
Television day, Pastor John
Trude has announced. In spite
of the faults of the industry,
it deserves praise for ijts pub
lic service programming of
religion, Pastor Trude said.
The church program, this
week commemorates the ten
th anniversary of "Faith for
Today," Seventh-day Adven
tist telecast, the first national
network television program
sponsored by any denomina
tion. It is now seen on 140
stations, nearly 23 per cent
of existing outlets.
An offering will be taken
to support the church's pro
gram for its television con
gregation. Revival Services
To Begin Saturday
Revival services will start
in the Medford Seventh-day
Adventist church Saturday.
Two services will be held
that day at 11 a.m. and at
3:30 p.m. Nightly meetings
Sunday through Friday will
be held in the church at 7:30
o'clock. The final services of
the weekilong series will be
at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2.

being "Evangelism Sunday."
A special order of service
will be followed and two
members of the evangelism
committee will give two-min
ute talks on the church's
evangelism thrust for the pre-
Lenten and Lenten season of
1960. A sextet, comprised of
members of the church choir
will sing, "O that I had a
Thousand Voices." The serv
ice begins at 11 a.m. The Sun
day school opens at 9:30 a.m.
After the service the EMV
callers will pick up their ma
terials in the church base
ment auditorium and go into
the homes of the members
later in the day and on the
following evenings to acquaint
everyone with the "Sharing
Christ Plan" of evangelism.
