Judge Earl Mil ler has announced. The bid was for a Ford 6 cylinder truck at $1,830. The county court also re jected all bids received for new tires and tubes for county passenger cars and trucks. Miller explained that the engineering department had reviewed the seven bids sub mitted. Only one, Burns Brothers, Portland, met the requirements of specifications and instructions as set forth by the 'county. One bidder did not furnish a bidder's bond and the other five had altered the specifica tions to such an extent that it was not possible to arrive at a fair comparison of bids Miller said. The county court official reported that they were re vising the list of specifications which will be advertised for bids to be reopened Feb. 25 at 10 a m. Spread cream between cake layers and on top. Decorate with additional date slices, if de sired. Twelve delectable servings. Chicken Gravy Uses . Canned chicken gravy, a comparative newcomer, ac tually has bits of tender chic ken afloat in a glossy, smooth and light gravy. Nothing to add; just heat and stir. Chicken gravy enhances chicken parts and patties, left over chicken or turkey, rice, hominy grits, potatoes, nood les, cornbread, rolls, muffins, dumplings, dressing, chicken or turkey hash, skillet dishes, hot sandwiches and casse roles. Avocado Calienie On the Half-Shell Everyone is familiar with avocados in sandwich spreads, salads, appetizers and desserts but to fully enjoy the semi tropical fruit, serve it as an entree or main dish at lunch eon or supper. The fruit, un like any other, has satisfying qualities which make it suit able for serving hot or cold, as best serves your inclinc tion. 3 avocados Salt 1 cup tomato sar IV2 teaspoon chili Jer 1 teaspoon celerj salt CANCER INCIDENCE New York-While most can cer is found in older people, no age group is immune. Combine the two with a lemon-accented may onnaise. If you like the rais ins puffy, plump them for a few minutes in hot water. Aisles Piled High With Canned Goods Scan your pantry shelves, consider the family's special likes, then profit by the many canned foods specials piled high in local super markets. January is a time for inven torying, for moving seasonal merchandise to make room for new stocks anticipating new crops. February finds the best buys of the year on many items in popular de mand; notably those repre senting last year's best har vests. The canning industry dur ing I960 will deliver more than 22 billion cans and jars of food to American tables; a choice of more than 1200 in dividual canned items. In re cording these fabulous fig ures, we pause to pay tribute to a French chef, Nicolas Ap pert who 150 years ago dis covered that foods would keep when cooked in a her metically sealed container. It seems worthy of note that four-fifths of the toma toes grown by American farm ers, three-fourths of the beets, two-thirds of the peas, more than half of the corn, about half of all peaches, pears, apricots, cranberries and sour cherries go into cans. Nearly all of the tuna caught, 90 per cent of the sardines and 85 per cent of the salmon get canned. t would take a page in this paper to name all the good things that come in cans. Watch displays for good buys and for adding new ex citement to menus. Other Good Buys All cuts of pork, both fresh and cured are plentiful, reas onable in price. Lots of brais ing beef being specialed. Frankfurthers are good buys for "kraut and frank" week. Plenty of fish featuring cod, Dungeness crabs, fish stocks, halibut, oysters, rockfish, CLASSIFIED AD DIRECTORY PERSONAL Lodge Notices 1 Special Clue Events 2 Personal 3 Lost and Found , ,.
