Auxiliary Conducts Installation Mrs. Albert Hackert was installed president of the La dies auxiliary of Siskiyou Canton, Patriarchs Militant, at a session Wednesday, Janu ary 27. Other officers installed for 1960 include Mrs. P. M. Al dredge, vice-president; Mrs. Clara Franklin, secretary; Mrs. George Nichols, treas urer; Mrs. F. A. Daugherty, chaplain; Mrs. O. S. Walden, officer of the day; Mrs. Ed ward Pease, officer of the guards. Mrs. Roy Ingle, color guard; Mrs. Clarence Jordan, color sergeant; Mrs. Dolly Love, color bearer; Mrs. George Brownlee, musician; Mrs. Car rie Milnes, sentry; Mrs. Fred Sharer, right aide to the pres ident; Mrs. William Dyer, left aide to the president. Mrs. Lee Willits, right aide to the vice-president; Mrs. Riley Applegate, left aide to the vice-president; Mrs. Nel lie Janes, right aide to the past president; Mrs. May Lindner, left aide to the past president; Mrs. Lois Ramsey, Mrs. Jack McDaniels, Miss Bessie Fredenburg and Mrs. Blanche Robinson, honor guard; and Mrs. Daugherty, press correspondent. A covered dish dinner pre ceded the session. The next meeting will be held Febru ary 24 with dinner served at 6:30 o'clock. Wilson PTA Plans Event The annual all school pot- luck dinner and talent show of Wilson Parent-Teacher as sociation will be held Thurs day, February 11, from 6 to 8 pjn. in the school cafeteria Price for the dinner will be for the entire family and in clude the show. Menu will in clude meat, green salad, rolls, pie, cake, coffee, and milk. The talent show will be givea by the students and will include a variety of acts in cluding vocal and instrumen tal numbers, group and indi vidual rhythms, and tumbling exhibitions. The event will be the only money-raising project for the PTA this year and net pro ceeds will be used to purchase new books for the school library. Riverside Club Plays For Master Points; Winners Announced Mrs. Roger Smoot and Mrs. Richard Milestone won first place among north-south play ers in master-point competi tion last Wednesday at the Riverside Bridge club. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Clark won first for east-west play. Fifty-two players competed. Other north-south winners were Mrs. Glenn Harrison and Mrs. A. W. Lingaas, second; Mrs. H. J. Boyd and Paul A. Hatton, third; and Mrs. C. L. Howard and Mrs. Fred Reh ling, fourth. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Coodes. Wilderville, Ore., were second place winners for east-west, while Mrs. J. . S. Winslow, Mrs. R. T. Jones, Mrs. Frank Perl and Mrs. Ivan Harrington tied for third and fourth. , ' r ' Nearly 85 per cent of all births in the United States are to women 18 to 34 years old. Mist Mary Ellen Bell, public health nurse with the Jack ton County Public Health department for many years, left Tuesday by plan for Europe where she plans to spend the next several months. This is Miss Bell's second trip abroad in recent years, and this time she plans to visit many or phanges and refuge camps. The camps for the most part will be those in which th World Council of Churches has an interest. The nurs plans first to visit in Spain. Italy, th island of Elba. Yugolavia, Austria. Germany and Switzer land. Later sh will travel in the Low Countries, in France and in the British islands. Miss Bell, who sponsors the educa tion of a boy who lives near Vienna, also plans to visit the boy and his family. Before departure. Miss Bell was honored at a party given by Mrs. Douglas Lamb and Mrs. Harvey Beatty at th Lamb horn for Madrona lane neighbors of the nurse. Decorations were in th European theme, and Miss Bell was presented gifts. Members voted to purchase a set of historical reference books for each of the two jun ior high schools. An Ameri can flag was presented to Brownie Scout Troop 174 of Oak Grove school, who dem onstrated a number of dances and songs for the group. Mrs. Elmert Gott reported on work at the Veterans domiciliary. A luncheon was served pre ceding the regular meeting. The tent will meet Febru ary 23 at the home of Mrs. Elmer Gott at 10 a.m. for sewing. Luncheon and a busi ness meeting will follow. . Medford Sojourners Announce Meeting Medford Sojourners club will meet Thursday, February 11, at 12:30 p.m. at the Girls Community club. Seafood School Set On Monday Interested persons are in vited to attend the Seafood Information school Monday, February 8, at the Jackson county courthouse auditorium. The afternoon session, start ing at 1:30 pjn., is open to the public. The 8:45 a.m. to noon period is geared to persons in the food industry, it was re ported. The school is sponsored by the Oregon State college sea foods laboratory and exten sion service and the bureau of commercial fisheries in co operation with Chefs de Cui sine society, fish commission of Oregon, National Fisheries institute, Oregon Restaurant and Beverage association, Wine .Advisory board, and Oregon Seafoods producers. The afternoon session will begin with family selection and use of seafood conducted by Mrs. Mabel C. Mack, as sistant director, extension service. Assisting her will be Zelma Reigle, consumer mar keting specialist, and Miss Margurette Helberg, consult ing home economist, Seattle, will give a cookery, demonstration. The school will end at about 4 pjn. Music Teachers To Hear Program First of a series of pro grams devoted to contempor ary music will be given for a meeting of Rogue Valley district, Oregon Music Teach ers' association, Monday, Feb ruary 8. It will be held at 7:45 p.m. at St. Mary's acad emy. Included for the program will be teaching material on Kabalevsky, Bartok and Tans man. Sister Miriam Joseph and her pupils will present the programs. Those interested are in vited to attend. Pupils of association mem bers will be presented in a recital at 3 p.m. February 14 at Lusk Piano house. Miss Margurelie Helberg (Foley photo) West Side Given Tree Arbor day will be observed by West Side school students, teachers and members of the West Side Mothers' club in a meaningful manner Friday, February 12, Herbert G. Wing, principal, announced. At 11 a.m. on that day a pink dogwood tree will be planted in front of the school by the children with the as sistance of James W. Irby of the maintenance department of the Medford School dis trict. The tree was presented by Bonnie and Mary Cheney in memory of their many happy experiences as former pupils of West Side. A short pro gram is also planned by the students. The planting ceremony marks the initial step towards completion of the Mothers' club project for this year, that of landscaping the front of the school. The project was undertaken by the club fol lowing a contribution by Mr. and Mrs. Francis Cheney for that purpose. Members of the landscaping committee are Mrs. Robert L. Kagy, Mrs. Richard Watson and Mrs. Dwight Wilson. Father Honored Hornbrook A birthday party was given recently at his home honoring Frank Lowe.
