Vegetables In perusing the monthly supply letter of United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable associa tion and with special refer ence to our Pacific coast, we found the words "more" and "same" occur ing often with reference to supplies compar ed seasonally with a year ago. Opening paragraph reads "From now until mid-1960, total supplies of fresh and processed fruits are expected to be moderately larger than in the same period of 1958 59." Fresh Fruits. There are more apples, more avocados, more bananas, much more cranberries, more grapes, more lemons; same rate of shipment of oranges and grapefruit; about same straw berries, pineapples. Fewer winter pears and tangerines. Raisins are bargain in good eating, good nutrition. Plenty of frozen concentrated orange juice. Fresh Vegetables. Seasonal ly, there's more broccoli, more carrots, more celery, more spinach; about same cabbage, eggplant, escarole, let t u c e, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, onions, pota toes, hard shell squashes. Harvest ing of new lettuce crop is un der way. Winter favorites, turnips and rutabagas, will be plentiful through March. Snap bean supply is unusual ly low along with beets, corn and cucumbers. Poultry and Eggs Specials every where on broiler - fryers, stewing hens, turkeys. Eggs are high in quality, low in price. Consider eggs in main dish; creamed, baked in cheese sauce, deviled and baked in Creole sauce or make an omelete filled with chopped ham or luncheon meat, with browned fresh mushrooms or with grated cheddar cheese. Meat Supplies Specials on high quality pork and flavorful lamb. Both have fine cuts for enjoying hot one day, cold or casser oled the next. Bacon and pork sausage prices encourage big ger breakfasts. Country style ribs are surprisingly lean. Good beef buys for the look ing. Fish and Shellfish Cold - storage holdings of fishery products con t i n u e high in preparation for the Lenten season. Good buys in fillets of cod and haddock, fish sticks, halibut, scallops, Dungeness crabs, Pacific oys sters, sablefish, shrimp. Hurricane Names Are Being Picked Washington-(UPD-The weath er bureau's hurricane name pickers have decided to make life easier on themselves. Instead of digging up a brand new list of never-before-used girls' names for the tropical storms each season, they're compiling four alpha betical sets of 21 names each which should serve, with mi nor modifications, from this year on. At the end of every four years, they'll just start over. The four sets of names haven't been finally okayed. The 84 names were expected to be made public in a week or two. SEARCH FOR BOMBS Columbus, Ga. -UPD- Two airliners were searched for ex plosives Thursday after an anonymous caller warned the Southern Airways ticket office here he had "set a bomb to go off." No bomb was found.
