Demonstra tions were given by Mrs. Bar bara KObinson and Mrs. Blom- quist on "Reading Readiness' and "Reading In The First vrraae. Plans were discussed for the annual smorgasbord to be held this spring and re minders were issued to all "good cooks" to start plan ning to prepare their partic ular specialties for the event, Following the meeting, sec ond grade room mothers served refreshments. ' Guests last weekend at the Warren Hazen home were Mr and Mrs. Horace Thomas, Spokane, Wash. : The Mack Griffin family wha were living in the old tdens home which burned here last week, are badly in need of a 3-bedroom home in the Jacksonville area. Any one who could rent them one is asked to call Jacksonville Assembly of God church at TW 9-1015. Cub Scouts Den 4 recently held a farewell party for Patrick Swanson, who has moved with his family to Cleveland, Ohio. The party was held at the Glenn Logan home on Sterling rd. Cubs present were Henry James, Bui Snow, Billy Ray King, Bill H inkle, Bob Glather, Danny Davis, Randy Smith and Charles Logan, the host. Boys of the den presented Patrick with a Cub Scout ring and pictures of various events in which he had parti cipated while living here. The boys played snow games during the afternoon. A Cub Scout pack meeting was held Jan. 6 with the flag I ealute led by the Webelos Den. A community sing was held, with accompaniment on the piano by Mrs. Harold White. Don Stoner and Warren Da vis, fathers of Danny Stoner and Danny Davis, were pre sented Indian head dresses by their sons. The two fathers are new members of the Cub Scouts parents committee. The Bobcat ceremony was held for two new cubs, Randy Smith and Gale Allen. Ted Rundle, institutional repre sentative, thanked the parents for the 100 per cent subscrip tion rate to Boys Life maga zine. Rundle and Cub-master Ed Hinkle explained new awards to be given for celebration of the 50th year of Scouting and plans for local activities for these awards. Wolf badges were present ed to Bill White and Gary Warden. Joe Davis and Mike Iverson and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Art Iver son. were honored and con gratulated on the boys' be coming Boy Scouts. Blue and Gold corsages were present ed to the mothers by the boys. Scoutmaster Don Wendt made a welcoming speech as Joe and Mike made the advance ment from Cub scouts to Boy Scouts, and the Den Chiefs of each Den led the two new members in the Boy Scout oath. Thanks was extended to Art Iverson for his faithful work in Cub Scouting. The next pack meeting will be Feb. 3. School News Eagle Point School Patricia Harris is a new pupil in Mrs. Elsie Turner's second grade class. Terry Childers, a student in Mrs. Jeanne Martin's third grade class, had a tonsillec tomy recently. The boys are playing vol leyball in their physical edu cation classes and, according to their instructor, Rick Wol gamott, they also will com plete the Oregon fitness test, which includes the "jump reach." They already have taken the push-up and bean bag tests. Fifth and sixth graders are playing sacket in their physi cal education classes, while the seventh and eighth grade girls have elected captains for their basketball teams. Instructor Maxine Berryman said the girls will start a tournament as soon as they have had more practice. Basketball began recently when the boys played a team from Rogue River. Volleyball intramurals for girls also have started and the schedule, when complet ed, will have lasted six weeks. Virginia Smith, Craig Fer- rell and Glennus Harris, all students in Mrs. Eva McKee's fourth grade class, moved durr ing the recent vacation period. Sheep Meeting Set All Day Thursday A sheep management meet ing will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at the Jackson county court house and the county fair grounds south of Medford, Earle Jossy, county extension agent, has announced. From 10 a.m. to noon, John Landers, Oregon State college livestock specialist, will talk on sheep management, feed ing and care, blue tongue and other disease problems. From 1 to 3 p.m., demon strations will be given at the Jackson county fairgrounds on docking, castrating, tag ging, care of new born lambs, and foot trimming. Those planning to attend are asked to wear work clothes and to dress warmly since the fair buildings are not "heated.
