1 Feeder Sales Set New ion Mark The October and December ' feeder sales sponsored by the Jackson County Livestock as- : sociation and the Midway auction yard sold a combined gross total of 3,196 bead of beef and gross receipts total led $420,058.04, Bill Bray, auction yard owners, report- ; ed to the livestock associa- tion. During the Oct. 27 feeder sale a total of 1,754 head of cattle were consigned and 1, 712 were sold. Total gross re ceipts were $242,901. Bray said the singles were held ov- er to the next Friday. 4 a iumi kjl ituoo 3 l ctri a were , sold at an average weight of 637 pounds and 24.19 aver age price. Many steers weigh- 1 ed 800 to 900 pounds and some 1,000 pounds. A total of 327 heifers were sold at an average weight of 614 pounds and average sale price of 22.22. Top Pens Top pen of steers sold for 29 cents and heifers at 26.75. Weaner steer calves sold numbered 216 at average weight of 436 pounds and al lied an average price of 26.85. Weaner heifer calves sold numbered 236 head weighing on an average of 437 pounds and selling for an average price of 24.75. Yearling steers sold numbered 850 head weighing an average of 688 pounds at an average price of 23.75. Bray said the long drought this fall had a cumulative ef fect on cattle sales. Many cat tle buyers were backing out of the market. Not too many buyers were on hand for the first sale. The bulk of the cat tle were sold to six buyers with one buyer paying out $40,000. During the second annual sale the prices on Dec. 1 were still lower in the market. However, more buyers than ever jammed the livestock yards. Bray said last week there is some talk among livestock men of a spring feeder sale. Bray held such a sale in his yard last spring and reported it successful. Many livestock men were holding back their cattle because of high prices thinking they could get high er prices if 'they waited. Bray explained to the live stock association that live stock speculators must now have a license and bond. Mini mum bond sum is S5,000 bas ed on the yearly volume. This is a new law in effect for the first time this year. Later an audit will be made of each speculator's resources and bonds will be set in ratio to dollar volume of sales hand led. Los Angeles auction yard was forced to close because of lack of volume, Bray explain ed yesterday. The land on which the yard was doing business was worth more than what it was being used for. Well-operated auction yards are taking the business away from nearby competitors, Bray- explained. i Club Owner Held In Murder Case Carson City, Nev. - (DPD- Nicholas Goodman, a former blackjack dealer whole alleg ed cheating resulted in revoc ation of a gambling license, was booked Saturday for in vestigation of homicide in connection with the Christ mas shooting of William Duf fin. Duffin, 61, co-owner of the Senator club here, was killed by a volley of six bullets from a .22 caliber weapon early Friday. Goodman specifically was charged in?1958 with cheat ing at 21 at the Senator. Duf fin and his partner lost their gambling licenses because of the widely publicized incident but continued to operate the bar. Goodman, 55, lost his casino employe work card.
