Dec 22, 1959 3 Salem Minister, in Aulo Accident Bend -EP&- Dr. Brooks Moore, 50, pastor of the First i Methodist church in Salem, and his wife, ' Feme, were killed Monday when their car skidded on an icy highway and overturned. The couple was en route to Buhl, Idaho, to spend the Christmas holidays with Mrs. Moore's parents. . The accident occurred about 70 miles east of here on Highway 20. State police said the car apparenty hit a slick spot as it rounded a curve. Both were thrown from the car, which turned over sever al times. Honey, a golden cocker spaniel dog belonging to the couple, survived the accident and was being cared for by friends of the minister in Bend. In Salem 12 Years The Rev. Mr. Moore had beenpastorof the Salem church since June of 1947. He was a graduate of North west Nazarene college in Nampa, Idaho. Later he trans ferred to the Methodist minis try and attended Boston uni versity School of Theology. He had earlier pastoral as signments in G 1 e n n s Ferry, Burley-A 1 b i o n and Idaho Falls, all in Idaho. While in Salem he was ac tive in work at Willamette university as a Bible teacher and student counsellor. He married Feme Alice Thompson of Buhl on Christ mas day in 1935. Senator Morse Would Consider D.C. Primaries Washington - (UPD -Sen. Wayne Morse (D-Ore.) indicat ed today he might allow his name ' to be entered in the District! of Columbia presi dential primary, which will take place next May 3. ' Morse said a "considerable number" of Democrats have urged him to allow his name to be entered. He said he con siders this a "great honor." The senator said he will reach no final decision on the primary "until the political situation in Oregon crystal izes a bit more." Won't Run Away But Morse said he under stands that despite his pro testation his name "in all probability will be entered in Oregon's presidential p r i -mary." He said in a statement that if bis name is entered in Ore gon "I shall not run away from a good political fight, if it is inevitable." Morse said be told District of Columia Democratic lead ers that the only qualifications he could offer would be as a candidate "with absolutely no money for campaign purposes . . . with no backing of any political machine . . . with a pledge to follow where the facts lead and not where the politicians lead unless the poli ticians are going in the same direction . . ." Uncle Sam Wants Trading Stamps Washington -JBPD- Uncle Sam has ordered the 100,000 government driversto stop pocketing trading stamps when they buy gas and oil at his expense. He wants the stamps himself. ; The General Services ad ministration, the govern ment's housekeeping agency which issued the directives, did not say what Uncle Sam would do with the stamps. Officials of G S A and the General Accounting office were said to be considering a possible deal with the trading stamp companies whereby the government could turn in the stamps for a cash settlement instead of merchandise. Eureka Shaken By Earthquake Eureka, Calif. -TO- An earthquake of moderate inten sity jolted this city Monday, recalling memories of a much stronger quake five years ago which wrecked the court house and severely damaged the city hall. Ironically, the new city hall was used for the first time Monday. The University of Califor nia seismograph at Berkeley reported the quake had a Richter magnitude of 4.75 and lasted 10 minutes.
